About this property

Reydon 4.3 miles. A historic Grade II listed conversion set amongst a square terrace of buildings and twelve acres of private grounds in Blythburgh, near Wenhaston, Hillcrest is an ideal holiday home for those looking to explore the countryside of Suffolk. Marvel at the fantastic courtyard-like shape of this building, where a square of pretty terrace houses surround a manicured courtyard where you will find off-road parking, making unpacking easy. This property has been sympathetically restored, and this is notable in the calm and pale décor throughout the open-plan living area, offset by a selection of leather sofas perfect for evening relaxation, and due to the open-plan nature of this space, it is a great social area for guests to get together and cook a heart-warming meal, which can be enjoyed on the dining table.

On the first floor, discover three bedrooms, beginning with a king-size with tasteful furniture and an en-suite, where guests can enjoy a refreshing soak amongst the bubbles. There is also a double bedroom, with delicate white curtains around the bed and period roofbeams creating an insight into the history of the building, as well as a twin with hues of pale green, both with an en-suite. Sitting outside is a must, with a lovely front garden for guests to enjoy a book in the sunshine with a view across the intriguing structure of the other houses and you will be delighted to find that there is both a communal gym and a communal swimming pool for guests to enjoy.

The local area captivates you with beautiful rolling hills and distant coastlines, and you can enjoy a walk in the wildlife at Suffolk Coast Nature reserve as well as wonderful beaches at Southwold, and Dunwich, a great spot for a picnic or to enjoy your favourite watersports. A little further from the property, a selection of restaurants, pubs and small shops can be found, a great place to try out local produce, or you can head over to Halesworth Golf course to spend a relaxing afternoon trying your skills at golf. Saxmundham is a small market town located on the River Fromus, in the heart of Suffolk’s Heritage Coast. The town is well serviced with independent shops, local museum, supermarkets and a train station, as well as art galleries, a weekly market and a farmers’ market. Situated so close to the coast, Saxmundham is a great base for a seaside holiday; within easy reach of Aldeburgh and Thorpeness, as well as Dunwich, Southwold and Walberswick, you could enjoy a different coastal location each day. Also close by is the inland market town Framlingham with beautiful historic architecture, a castle and an array of independent shops. South of the town there is the well known tourist destination of Sutton Hoo, an ancient Royal Anglo-Saxon burial site. Plus the fact that his cleaner never bothered to reply to my phone call during our stay, gives us the impression that the owner does not really care about his customers.

House and decor lovely and cosy. Swimming pool was great, the kids loved it. Perfect location to get to southwold and surrounding areas

The kitchen was really well appointed apart from lack of food cupboard space, just a small empty cupboard for bread, cereals and snacks would be useful. We also found the windows on the ground floor impossible to open, it was really warm on our first day and had to open the front door to get some air through. We had forgotten our board games so was pleased to read that games were in the sideboard, but again couldn’t open the cupboard. As mentioned by previous visitors, the bathroom of the double bedroom would really benefit from having a proper shower, but these are really only minor points and wouldn’t stop us from booking again. We all felt at home very quickly. We used the games room a couple of times, excellent facilities, didn’t use the pool as it was booked the times we would have used but again it looked excellent, didn’t realise we needed the key with the fob attached (probably our fault but didn’t read this in the information guide). We did have a lovely week and thank you for a great stay at Hillcrest.
