About this property

Saxmundham 3.6 miles. Settled into the quaint countryside village of Friston, near Saxmundham, Suffolk, Shoemakers Cottage is an ideal holiday base for a family looking to explore the coast and countryside of Suffolk. Be welcomed into a beautiful cottage, where a woodburning stove is settled into a traditional bare brick fireplace and warms the sitting room as you relax and plan the day ahead of you. The kitchen/diner creates a space for you to rustle up a storm, enjoying your meal at the dining table. Shoemakers Cottage houses two bedrooms, a double with an en-suite and an ornamental fireplace and a second bedroom with a Laura Ashely day bed that can be set up as a single, twin or a double on request, and there is a ground-floor shower room for your refreshment. A beautiful garden accompanies this cottage, with a lawn to the front of the property boasting floral boarders, and a rear garden with a decked sun terrace, extensive lawn and mature trees, so dining alfresco is a must. Friston is a rural village with its own pub, The Friston Chequers, historic church and access to countryside walks. Within a short distance you can reach the town of Saxmundham, where there is a greater variety of eateries and convenience stores so you can stock up on essentials, as well as a local museum and countryside park. Also within easy reach of the property is the coast of Suffolk, so why not head over to the fantastic town of Aldeburgh and browse the local independent shops along the fashionable high street before enjoying walks at the pebble beach, Snape path and Haven Nature Reserve. Explore the wonders of Suffolk with a stay at Shoemakers Cottage.

The quiet Suffolk village of Friston is ideally placed to explore the beautiful Suffolk heritage coastline, an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, including several nature reserves. Friston is also great for the attractive popular coastal towns of Aldeburgh and Southwold, with an excellent choice of pubs, restaurants, independent shops, galleries and tea rooms. Two miles from Friston is the well-known Snape Maltings Concert Hall, offering world class concerts and musical events throughout the year, and home of the annual Aldeburgh Festival held in June. The Maltings also has interesting shops and galleries as well as an rspb nature reserve with lovely riverside walks and river boat trips along the estuary. Family fun can be found at nearby Leiston Long Shop Museum with 200 years of local history, or with the animals at Easton Park Farm or Africa Alive, while history is on display at Framlingham and Orford castles or the Anglo-Saxon site of Sutton Hoo.

Couch and chair in lounge uncomfortable this is usually the case at rental cottages. Upstairs shower screen should concertina but does not, limiting entry to Bath/shower. Welcome packs inconsistent,no milk or tea bags but rectified. Do owners every stay to discover any shortcomings , I think they rely on cleaners ! !.

Well kept gardens to enjoy and only a short walk to the "Old Chequers" village pub, where we enjoyed excellent meals. When booking we were made aware of the 'steep' staircase in the property and this aspect does need to be highlighted but other than this we would highly recommend "Shoemakers" cottage.

A perfect cottage in a perfect location for exploring the beautiful Suffolk coast and countryside. New doors, windows and shower this year enhanced our stay. A large, secure garden was perfect for our dog. Everything we needed to make our stay comfortable was provided (including a lovely welcome pack for us and our dog). The owner is so kind and helped us with any queries we had. Hope to return again in the future. An ideal cottage for a couple (plus four legged friend!)
