Guests say

Poppy Cottage in Suffolk is highly praised for its comfortable accommodation, tranquil and beautiful setting, and convenient location for exploring local attractions. Guests appreciate the well-maintained grounds, wildlife, and the cosy atmosphere, especially during festive seasons. Some minor issues with maintenance and noise are mentioned, but overall experiences are positive, with many considering return visits.

Reviews generally indicate that Poppy Cottage is clean and well-kept, with only a few isolated comments on specific items needing replacement or improvement. The overall impression is of a tidy and pleasant environment.

The location is highly regarded for its peacefulness and proximity to local sights and amenities. Some guests found the signage confusing, but the rural setting and ease of access to nearby attractions contribute to a positive experience.

Guests find the cottage very comfortable, with a cosy atmosphere and adequate furnishings. The spacious bedroom and pleasant sitting room are noted, although some guests mention noise from adjoining cottages.

Facilities are generally well-received, with a well-equipped kitchen and lovely outdoor areas. However, there are comments about maintenance issues such as loose slabs, lack of hot water for baths, and a need for better signage. The shared facilities like the games room and laundry are appreciated.

While guests mention welcome gestures such as cookies, milk, and bread, there are not enough reviews referencing consistent gifts to provide a score. It should be noted that while these touches are appreciated, they are not guaranteed for every stay.

The property is very well equipped with everything you could need. We felt "at home" from the moment we arrived. The provision of hand soap, washing up liquid, dish cloth etc was very handy! The gardens and pond area were lovely. Premises generally very well kept. I had taken my hairdryer as I couldn't see anywhere in the property's listing that there was one, however there was. I may have missed that but if I didn't it would be worth a mention in the property details. Just one criticism the inside of the microwave looked like it had seen better days. It was very rusty and didn't look very hygienic!

We did not want for anything at all. All the furniture was very comfortable indeed. All the small things that can sometimes be missing were there or available if required. Beautiful huge garden with a pergola for birdwatching or watching the sunset. The other residents during our stay were delightful company and we were all respectful of each other. Great base for travelling around the area. Idyllic spot

It’s a well laid out cottage; clean, warm and comfortable, with a good level of equipment in the kitchen for a self catering break. The bedroom is nice and large with good storage for clothes. The sitting room is pleasant, with a dining table, comfortable easy chair and a two seater bed settee. The bathroom works well, albeit obtaining a satisfactory temperature of the shower by adjusting the hot and cold flow from the taps is a bit tricky to master to keep a consistent temperature. The provision of a wall mounted soap dish would make a very welcome improvement. There is excellent provision for shared external facilities with seating, bbq area, play area, games room, laundry and a lovely view of the lake. But.. it’s not obvious in the description on the Sykes website that it is one of 5 cottages in a multiple stable conversion complex set around a central courtyard, and depending on occupancy can be generally noisy. This, and the other cottages, are also know as Ore Valley Holiday Cottages and a more accurate description of what to expect is shown on that website. Footfall and TV noise comes into the bedroom from the adjoining Hayloft Cottage and bathroom noises from Horseshoe Cottage can be heard in the sitting room area. There isn’t anywhere to sit outside the cottage and eat breakfast for example, without being in full view of all the other cottages. It’s a bit of a stretch to say in the Sykes description that it’s a romantic retreat with the potential for so many other people being around in quite close proximity. Although the kitchen has a number of cupboards, there isn’t anywhere spare to store the usual self catering supplies, so these clutter the worktops. An additional empty cupboard would make all the difference. Don’t rely on the map location on the Sykes website, it refers to a totally separate property to the east. The written description is accurate though. That said, we had a very enjoyable time in Poppy Cottage. The location is very handy for exploring the area and it is in a truly rural location.
