Set in an extraordinarily quiet location, close to the Welsh border in the idyllic Herefordshire countryside, this property boasts wonderful views, rolling hills and picturesque landscapes. The rural setting allows ample opportunities for outdoor activities such as hiking, cycling and walking. The area is home to many attractive and interesting towns, including the foodie haven of Ludlow (20 miles); the literary town of Hay-on-Wye (11 miles), famed for its many bookshops; and the market town of Hereford (18 miles), with its impressive 11th century cathedral. For those who enjoy more active pursuits, there is access to Offas Dyke within three miles, the Radnor hills are nearby and the Black Mountains are a short drive away. The River Wye is close by offering more gentle waterside walks, and even the opportunity to enjoy some wild swimming. The nearest town to the property is Kington, 2 miles away, which hosts two very popular walking festivals in the spring and autumn every year. Kington also offers a supermarket, and an excellent delicatessen and greengrocer offering local produce. There are five excellent restaurants in the area.
This lovingly converted barn is situated next to the owner’s own home, and yet the amount of space here means that guests are able to enjoy their privacy. On entering the property, guests cannot help but be impressed by the sense of space this property boasts, being over 60 feet in length. On the ground floor, the open-plan living area is a light-filled space, thanks to the double-height windows on both sides of the building. The dining table sits between these windows, next to which is the wonderful original 1959 Wurlitzer jukebox, which plays 200 golden-oldie records, without anyone having to search their pockets for coins. Passing from the dining area to the lounge, guests will find a fantastically relaxing area with a large, powerful wood burner (with as much free wood as needed); comfortable sofas, and a very well-stocked library of books. The kitchen is next to the dining area and is equipped with an oven, hob, microwave, fridge/freezer, washing machine, L'Or coffee machine and dishwasher. There is also a shower room with WC on the ground floor. Taking the stairs to the first floor, guests will love the second lounge, with its beamed ceiling, comfortable sofas, and TV/DVD. At one end of this room, a balcony offers views over the surrounding gardens, plus the wonderful Herefordshire countryside and the Black Mountains beyond. There are two bedrooms in the property, both of which benefit from an en-suite bathroom, the first of these has a king-size bed, whilst the second is a twin room that can be made up as a king-size bed on request. One of the owners, is an extremely well-known garden designer, and the gardens around the barn are a show piece for her skills, and are for use by guests staying in the barn. The extraordinary gardens have been recognised as one of the best in Herefordshire and are perfect to explore, watch the stunning wildlife pond or admire the beautiful sunset. Beyond the gardens, there are a further 13 acres of private ancient woodland, providing a wonderfully secluded location for walks amongst the native trees, perfect for nature lovers and bird watchers. The bluebells in April/May are stunning. The owners have two very friendly Spaniels and dachshund who are always happy to show you the way. An elevated wooden platform in one of the wildflower meadows offers extensive views of the beautiful, rolling Herefordshire countryside.
