Guests say

Woodland Hawthorn Lodge in Ellesmere offers a spacious and comfortable stay with a touch of luxury, highlighted by its hot tub and peaceful surroundings. Guests appreciate the clean rooms, large kitchen, and friendly staff, though some noted issues with maintenance and cleanliness in isolated cases.

Most guests found the lodge clean and well-presented, but there were concerns about mould, a smell of urine in one bathroom, and bleach residue on crockery, suggesting occasional lapses in cleaning standards.

The location is consistently praised for its tranquillity and beautiful scenery, making it an ideal spot for a peaceful retreat.

The lodge is described as spacious, cosy, and comfortable, particularly suitable for families. The beds and towels were noted for their cleanliness and comfort.

Facilities like the hot tub and large kitchen are well-received, but there are reports of maintenance issues such as non-working jets in the hot tub, flickering lights, and a broken fuse box lid.

There is no mention of gifts or special touches that would indicate thoughtfulness from the hosts, so it is not possible to provide a score in this category.

This would have been my second time visiting this lodge. The staff did not help with rearranging the booking to a more convenient date (requested to change due to personal circumstances), apply a refund or credit note. Wouldn’t recommend booking with hoseasons. Limited booking changes. Also got a text message the day before we were due to arrive to say we need to pay deposit and to get in touch re arrive time. We were still looking into visiting and hence didn’t reply. We then got a text on the day of arrival to get in touch again. Numerous phone calls. And a voicemail to say the keys can only be collected between 4-6pm. When the hoseasons website clearly states these can be collected until 8pm. Poor poor service by reception at the lodge. Upon calling them they then advised we need to pay the deposit by 5.30pm to secure key access and they are closed at the weekend! Would not recommend booking at all!

We stayed at the cabin over the weekend and overall the experience was very disappointing. The only real positive was the location — quiet and peaceful — but everything else fell well below an acceptable standard. The cabin was not clean on arrival. There was mould visible throughout multiple areas, and one of the bathrooms had a strong smell of urine that never went away. It genuinely felt like the place hadn’t been properly cleaned or checked before we arrived. To make matters worse, the receptionist at check-in was sarcastic and rude, which was not a great first impression and set the tone for the stay. Basic customer service shouldn’t be too much to expect. The biggest let-down, though, was the hot tub — the main reason we booked — not working for the whole first day and night. Considering it’s one of the key advertised features, this was incredibly frustrating and made us feel like we didn’t receive what we paid for. With proper cleaning, basic maintenance, and staff who actually want to help guests, this could be a great stay. But as it stands, we wouldn’t return and couldn’t recommend it.

We stayed at Woodlands Park Lodges during our week away in Wales, and it was absolutely wonderful. From the moment we arrived, we felt relaxed and at home. The lodge itself was cosy, comfortable, and perfectly suited for a family break. My four children described it best relaxed, cosy, and we loved the hot tub! The location is stunning: peaceful, tucked away from any hustle and bustle, and surrounded by beautiful scenery. It really is the perfect spot to switch off and recharge. The hot tub was a real highlight after days out exploring, and the setting made it even more special. Woodlands Park Lodges is truly a hidden gem in a picturesque part of Wales. Ideal for families looking for comfort, tranquillity, and a touch of luxury. Wed happily return and would recommend it to anyone looking for a memorable break.
