Aqueduct Cottage receives high praise for its excellent location by the canal, offering a peaceful setting with nearby pubs and walks. Guests appreciate the warm welcome from the owner, Susan, and the well-equipped, clean, and comfortable accommodation. The garden and real fire are particularly beloved, and the thoughtful touches, including a welcome pack and homemade cakes, add to the delightful experience.
Guests consistently note the cottage's exceptional cleanliness, with only a single mention of dust on lampshades. The overall impression is of a very clean and well-maintained property.
The location is highly praised for its tranquillity and proximity to the canal, aqueduct, and local amenities. It's considered an excellent base for exploring the area and enjoying the scenery.
The cottage is described as comfortable and roomy, with ample seating and a cosy atmosphere. A few comments suggest the bedrooms could be less cramped, but overall, the comfort level is rated highly.
Facilities are deemed excellent, with a well-equipped kitchen and thoughtful amenities. Maintenance appears to be of a high standard, although a minor suggestion for lampshades to reduce glare was made.
The owner's thoughtfulness is frequently mentioned, with guests delighted by the welcome pack and homemade cakes. While these gifts are greatly appreciated, it's noted that such personal touches, though common, are not guaranteed.
This wonderful semi-detached cottage is located right on the canal towpath, just a hundred yards from the Chirk Aqueduct running high above the River Ceiriog, which forms the border between England and Wales. Dating from 1847, this former Victorian wharf man’s cottage seamlessly blends character features alongside modern fixtures and fittings to provide a holiday home of real distinction. Head up the stairs to find three comfy bedrooms, two of which look over the canal, where you will also find a family bathroom. On the ground floor, the cosy sitting room boasts a roaring open fire, whilst to the rear of the cottage is a modern and well-equipped kitchen next to a dining room, as well as a shower room.
Step out of the back door and you will find a beautiful lawned garden with both a patio and a decked area, where you can sit and relax as the canal boats chug quietly past. Stroll out of the front door and you immediately become a member of the canal boat community. Turn right and within a minute’s walk, you find yourself on the Thomas Telford designed Chirk Aqueduct which takes you 70 feet above the Ceiriog Valley into North Wales. Turn left along the towpath and down the road and you will soon reach the Bridge Inn where a warm welcome awaits.
The small town of Chirk has a delightful selection of shops, cafes and pubs, as well as being home to Chirk Castle, a magnificent National Trust owned medieval castle which not only features many fascinating historical artefacts, but also boasts fabulous gardens and woodland. Situated on the Welsh border, guests at Aqueduct Cottage can easily access the North Wales towns of Llangollen and Bala, as well as being just a short drive from the Roman city of Chester, famous for its racecourse, Roman Walls and the world-famous Chester Zoo. A superb base for a holiday that you will never forget.
The property will be decorated for Christmas and will have an artificial tree.

It is spotlessly clean and very well looked after. The host is extremely helpful, giving useful tips on where to eat out and places to visit. The welcome tray is second to none. The cottage is cosy and comfortable with a pleasant garden. The kitchen is so well-equipped that I told Mrs. Hume that she had thought of everything. We really enjoyed the canal-side setting and the beautiful scenery. We would love to return: still more things to do in this very interesting area.
