Guests say

The Wild Cherry Tree Retreat is a charming and homely cottage praised for its peaceful location and stylish interiors. Guests appreciate its proximity to Ironbridge and the responsive host. While some find it quirky and comfortable, others note issues with accessibility, maintenance, and practicality of furnishings.

Cleanliness receives mixed reviews. Some guests found the cottage clean and comfortable, while others reported issues such as unwashed sheets, dog hairs, and dirty kitchen items. The overall impression suggests room for improvement in cleaning standards.

The location is generally well-regarded, with guests appreciating the cottage's proximity to local attractions and the town of Ironbridge. However, concerns about accessibility due to steep steps and parking challenges slightly affect the score.

Comfort is acknowledged with mentions of comfy beds and a peaceful setting. However, some guests reported impractical furnishings, creaky beds, and low ceilings that impacted their comfort, leading to a moderate score.

Facilities are seen as adequate but with room for improvement. Guests mention a lack of kitchen equipment, maintenance issues, and a non-functional log burner. The property's charm does not fully compensate for these shortcomings.

There is no mention of gifts or special thoughtful touches provided by the hosts in the reviews, so it is not possible to assess the thoughtfulness category accurately. Therefore, this score is set to null.

We were very disappointed with this cottage overall. On arrival, we had to navigate very steep, uneven steps covered in slippery leaves through a dark passageway. There is no light or handrail, which would make access extremely difficult for anyone with mobility issues. The property is entered through the kitchen, which feels cramped due to a very large table dominating the space. There are further steps down to the living room and another room. The living room itself is comfortable and has a large TV. However, there are many faux fur furnishings, rugs and throws throughout the property, some in bright pink. Given that pets are allowed, faux fur accessories do not seem ideal.Access upstairs is via stairs leading to the first bedroom, which is manageable. However, reaching the other two bedrooms and the bathroom involves additional steps and extremely low ceilings. Anyone with mobility concerns would find this very challenging. Being in my 70s, I found the upstairs particularly difficult and was relieved we were only staying a couple of days. There were more faux fur throws upstairs, which we immediately stored in a cupboard. The first bedroom has ample storage, though the other two are more limited. The bathroom includes both a bath and shower, but we found the shower water temperature only tepid. Our main concern was the kitchen. Four knives and forks for a property accommodating up to six guests is inadequate, as is having only one wine glass and two flutes. There is no sieve and no suitable dishes for cooking. The kitchen equipment generally needs attention. The oversized table also makes accessing the fridge and cupboards awkward. The house is located on a steep main road. Although guests are advised to park on the road outside, we felt this was unsafe as cars travel quickly downhill. We were sometimes able to park further down the hill near the nearest pub, but on one occasion had no choice but to park directly outside the property. There is no printed information in the house about places to visit or recommendations for eating out, although an online welcome pack is available if requested. We had to ask for the WiFi information as this was not readily given. In the online welcome it stated that extra logs would be charged at £5. This gave the impression there would be some logs available enabling us to have fire……there weren’t!On a positive note, the owners were quick to respond via text to the issues we raised. In summary, due to the steep position, accessibility concerns, poorly equipped kitchen, and low ceilings and multiple steps upstairs, I would not recommend this property for a stay in Ironbridge.

Lovely cottage, perfect for a family or group visiting the area.

The cottage was definitely cosy with a lovely interior and character. 2 of the bedrooms were lovely however the 3rd room with the single beds went very practical as they were very creaky and meant 2 of our guests were quite uncomfortable - however this would probably be fine for very small children.
