About this property

Boasting beautiful Brontë inspired interiors and settled in the lovely West Yorkshire village of Haworth is Emerald Cottage Green Street, an end-terrace, three-storey period property dating back to 1890. Offering four guests a fabulous base for walking and visiting the lovely nearby towns and villages, Emerald Cottage is perfect for a couple or small group of friends. The interiors of the property are reflective of Charlotte, Emily, Anne and their brother Branwell and the 19th Century period during which they lived. Be welcomed into the galley kitchen as you enter the front door, where the décor will immediately wow you with William Morris wallpaper and stylish subway tiling; this compact space is well-equipped with all the quality, essential appliances for a self-catered stay. Head through to the living/dining room following a day of adventure to find a beautiful Chesterfield sofa to relax on, an armchair, and a woodburning stove within an ornate fireplace, with a TV and more thoughtful decoration from the Pre-Raphaelite movement. You will find a history of Emerald Cottage through time from 1890, so you can understand the provenance of your accommodation, and also a biography for each Brontë sister and Branwell. Take the stairs up to the first floor to find the first bedroom, this one named after Charlotte Brontë, boasting a pretty set of single beds with a feature fireplace adding further character, along with a wall-mounted TV. Discover a shower room on this floor too with a wonderful feature basin and a walk-in shower to feel refreshed in. A further set of stairs lead to the second-floor master bedroom where a king-size bed awaits beneath the sloping ceiling, with Velux windows offering picture views of the rolling hills over the village and more antique furnishings decorate the space, with a wall-mounted TV here too. A small patio to the side of the property means you can soak up the village surroundings with your morning coffee, while balmy summer evenings can be enjoyed with a refreshing drink before heading to one of Haworth's restaurants. Discover a wonderful selection of eateries in this small setting, with a pub just outside the village called Wuthering Heights being a definite must-visit for fans of the book and author, while a host of shops offer all the self-catering essentials as well as some fantastic curiosity and antique shops, perfect for picking up a holiday memento! Embark on some beautiful walks from the doorstep around Haworth and the surrounding countryside, with a popular walk heading out of the village and onto the moors to find Brontë Waterfall Brontë Bridge and Top Withens. Enjoy a scenic journey back in time on the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway offering rides on vintage steam trains, a great way to take in the picturesque setting without moving a muscle! Within easy reach is the National Trust's East Riddlesden Hall where you'll find period furnishings within the restored manor house, along with neat formal gardens and a lovely tearoom for an afternoon treat to end the visit.Venture down to Halifax to visit the newly renovated Piece Hall and spend time in the gardens of Shibden Hall which were the setting for “Gentleman Jack”. Marvel at the grandeur of Cliffe Castle, or pay a visit to the 'gateway to the Dales' at Skipton, home to Skipton Castle and a variety of shops and eateries. Enjoy a relaxing break to West Yorkshire with your loved ones at Emerald Cottage.

Haworth is a delightful village and is well-known for being the home of the famous Brontë sisters. The surrounding rugged moorland is what inspired their writing, and is still a big attraction for keen walkers and cyclists to explore. The village boasts a good selection of local amenities including a myriad of curiosity and antique shops, alongside convenience stores, pubs and restaurants. Visit the Brontë Parsonage Museum to learn more about the literary greats, and take a trip on the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway for amazing scenery.

The cottage was extremely clean, comfortable, beautifully decorated, warm and cosy and very well positioned to visit everywhere in the village of Haworth and surrounding areas. We had a really great time and enjoyed most of what the cottage had to offer and especially enjoyed reading the information on the history of the inhabitants of 6 Green Street-this was really great and someone had obviously done a great deal of research. We have been renting holiday accommodation 4 times a year for 20 years staying in various houses, apartments and flats around UK so feel we have a reasonable amount of experience in what we think is great, good and not so good and, having read the reviews of previous guests and owners comments, we hope you appreciate some feedback with some constructive criticism. The small things we have mentioned certainly did not take away from the enjoyment of our stay in Haworth(apart from the beds maybe!)and we would have no hesitation in booking Emerald Cottage again for another stay in wonderful Haworth! The description of the galley kitchen/dining area suggests these are in the same place but the dining table is actually in an extremely restricted area of the lounge. I could not get my legs under the table or sit on the benches so had to sit on the arm of the chair and reach over to the table to eat my food. A suggestion would be to have smaller sofas/chairs and a slightly larger or even a round table so people could sit and eat comfortably. The kitchen is described as quite compact-it is extremely restricted for space, only one person can stand in the area at a time and it would be difficult (though admittedly not impossible)to do a full blown meal for 4 people due to lack of work top area. It was very well equipped with sufficient cutlery, crockery etc (though only 2 wineglasses for 4 people?) It does not have a garden as stated-it is a concrete area at the side of the house with 4 bins enclosed in wooden structures -I assume this is classed as the patio? The king-size bed in the beautiful loft bedroom was very comfortable. The twin room was lovely but the single beds were reviewed by a previous guest as hard, so a folded duvet had been put on the beds presumably to make them soft but all this did was make them uncomfortable as the quilts moved about as I turned over in the night because they were only 'tucked under' the mattress-not ideal. A big improvement would be to either put decent mattresses on the beds or decent mattress toppers.

The heating did not come on in the morning, COLD. The best thing, having arrived Friday after a 5 hour travel the hob didn't work, so we couldn't cook our tea. Contacted Andrew the handy man, but because of the bad mobile phone reception, we didn't get to speak to him until Saturday. We lost Saturday of our holiday waiting for the hob to be replaced. Surely this should have been checked before hand. Not sure it is suitable for 4 people re living area.
