About this property

Situated in the quaint village of Harden in West Yorkshire, boasting stunning views of the Moors, is Cotter Barn, a stunning barn conversion, ideal for a large family or group gathering for those wanting to escape to a tranquil rural retreat that is within easy reach of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. This contemporary accommodation offers ample off-road parking and a large lawn and patio garden, ideal for sitting out and enjoying your picturesque surroundings. Step inside the property and be impressed by a pristine wooden floor, enhanced by underfloor heating, as well as character beams, incredible high ceilings and a host of modern conveniences.

The open-plan living space boasts floor to ceiling windows and sliding doors on both sides, flooding the room with natural light and adding to the spacious feel. The well-equipped kitchen has pretty, pastel-coloured units, a host of handy appliances, including a large AGA cooker and an island that doubles up as a breakfast bar with seating beside a huge woodburning stove, filling the room with warmth and adding to the tranquil feel of the space. Delicious home-cooked meals can be enjoyed at the breakfast bar or around the dining table, before retiring to the spacious seating area, which boasts high ceilings, wooden beams and a host of inviting sofas to relax on as you enjoy an evening in front of the Sky TV, or getting lost in a good book.

The large utility room offers an additional fridge/freezer and a washing machine, ideal for cleaning up any muddy clothes after a day exploring the national park, while the garage has been thoughtfully transformed into a games room complete with table tennis, ideal for a fun evening of friendly competition. When sleep is calling, you have a choice of six bedrooms to catch your rest in, including a ground-floor double with a TV and en-suite shower room. Upstairs, cross the gallery landing, which overlooks the living room, to find the spacious master bedroom, which offers a double bed and a pull out single bed if required for a child, a Juliet balcony overlooking the moors, character beams, high ceilings, a wall-mounted TV and a large en-suite bathroom with choice of bath and shower, plus a double sink.

The other side of the landing showcases two identical and unusually spacious single bedrooms, each with a wall-mounted TV and fully tiled en-suite shower room. The remaining bedrooms are accessed via a set of stairs from the hallway, leading to two identical double bedrooms, resting under the eaves, boasting skylights, and en-suite shower rooms; these rooms can be adjoined if required, or the door can otherwise be locked. There is a small children's play area with a selection of toys on the landing area just outside these two bedrooms, ideal for keeping little ones occupied as you get ready for the day.

Harden village offers a convenience store, a Post Office and a butcher's as well as two churches and nearby is Bingley St. Ives, a 500-acre park which boasts several walking trails, woodland, a small lake and a children's play area. The market town of Bingley is a couple of miles from here, boasting walks beside the River Aire and the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, as well as its bustling Main Street, which hosts a great selection of shops, restaurants and traditional pubs serving food, ideal for stopping off for a refreshment after a busy day exploring your surroundings on foot. Myrtle Park is a wonderful place for a walk and a picnic, and plays host to several annual events, including a music festival and one of Yorkshire's biggest agricultural shows, Bingley Show.

Head into the heart of Bronte country and visit the wild and rugged moorland of Haworth, the former home of the famous literary sisters. The centre of the village boasts charming alleyways, cobbled streets lined with quirky shops, a charming selection of cafés and several Bronte attractions, including the Brontë Parsonage Museum, the former family home displaying personal items of the novelists. You can also explore the pretty Penistone Hill Country Park, Brontë Bridge and Brontë Waterfall, and gain an understanding of why this part of Yorkshire was such an inspiration to some of their most iconic work. Discover Keighley via a vintage steam train journey along the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway; visit the Victorian Cliffe Castle, spend time exploring Keighley Bus Museum, which houses more than 100 single and double-decker buses and be sure to visit the 17th century manor house of East Riddleston Hall, owned by the National Trust.

Take a day trip to the Victorian model village and World Heritage Site of Saltaire, with galleries, restaurants and shopping facilities, while walkers and cyclists will relish the opportunity to explore the lush green countryside of the nearby Yorkshire Dales National Park, where you will find the unique rock formation of Malham Cove and the limestone gorge of Gordale Scar. A few more kitchen knives would be helpful though! Our grandchildren loved having their own bathrooms and adored letting off steam outside!

The accommodation was exceptional for our needs and everyone appreciated the en suite facilities. Children loved the table tennis room and had to be prised away on occasion. The Barn's situation, backing on to moorland, was a real bonus, as evening walks became an essential part of our day. The children loved rock climbing and exploring and came away with many happy memories. Despite the welcomed isolation, towns with supermarkets were only minutes away and there were numerous places of interest to visit. Haworth, Harrogate, Halifax, Skipton and Brimham Rocks were all accessible and made for a great holiday. Elaine, the property owner, was welcoming, helpful and friendly and did all she could to make our stay in the Barn comfortable. Two minor negatives - the wi-fi was slow and not accessible to everyone and we could have done with a few hooks on the bathroom doors, but this is quibbling in a holiday in such wonderful accommodation, surrounded by the most beautiful scenery.
