Okay so I have to split this review into two. The hard product is a solid 4/5. The cottage is finished to a high standard with the strong exception of the mattresses and main bedroom curtains! I know mattresses are a personal preference but I do like springs to actually support my weight. The curtains in the bigger bedroom are unlined and let so much light in so we were woken up by the sun at 6am. My wife barely slept for the 4 days. The fridge freezer is also very small and not very cold even on max and the freezer is extremely frosted up. All other hard features of the house were spot on. (The twisty lock on the front door could do with oiling) Now for the soft product. This is not good at all. Barely 2/5. Having stayed in a lot of cottages like this, this cottage feels very much like a business and not someone’s loved home. There are very few homely touches. The kitchen is no where near well enough equipped to cook any complicated meals despite what the listing suggests. You can imagine our surprise when we found there wasn’t a single kitchen knife. There is also just one single pan, a small frying pan, a griddle pan and a small wok. We were left some coffee pods for the nespresso machine and some UHT milk / sugar sachet (that are hard) and some biscoff biscuits that are 4 months out of date!!!! The cheese straws in the welcome pack are also out of date in 2025. A bottle of rose wine was also left for us. They didn’t even leave us with a cloth to wipe down the sides. Something so simple. Also; the tea towel they provide is the most USELESS thing in the world. It doesn’t absorb anything. It just pushes water around! Owner, Please replace these with something else. They couldn’t even provide a working vacuum!!! The one in the kitchen was out of battery and trust me when I say I searched high and low for the charger but couldn’t find it. No instructions for ANYTHING was provided, just a piece of paper with the WiFi details left on the coffee table. No local info, no info on how the heating worked, instructions on simple things like where to put rubbish! A full bin of the last occupants rubbish was left for us on arrival which was most unwelcoming. Now let’s talk about the arrival. What a mess that was. This might be cottages.com fault. They gave us the address of the bigger house next door and the key codes to both the bigger and smaller cottage (this one). We accidentally let ourselves into the larger house and then the out of hours team told us to stay in the bigger house! (we didn’t). This did mean we had to lug all our stuff next door in the pouring rain! The phone number given to us for local contact does not work so we couldn’t even ask them to supply some knives so I ended up paying for some (which I have left there by the way!) out of my own pocket. Not what you’d expect from such an expensive rental. All in all, it was a great base to see the local area. Goose Eye is a beautiful little village with some stunning walks without having to drive far. You will need a car; and a car with some power as the hills leading into the hamlet are VERY steep! All in all; would I stay here again? yes probably but I would be more prepared for the lack of finishes. I would definitely be bringing a black out blind and some kitchen utensils.

Warm, cosy little cottage in the heart of bronte country which provided everything we needed for our stay, ideally situated for exploring the countryside and local attractions i.e. Howarth Village, Saltaire Mill, Bolton Abbey, Malham Cove and Yorkshire Dales. In addition the Turkey Inn just across road provided a warm and friendly atmosphere, a very popular location for dining. Wouldn't hesitate to book again in the future.
