About this property

A stone-built, Victorian, end of terrace cottage, in the small village of Laycock just four miles from Haworth, home of the Bronte sisters. Set back on a hillside with spacious gardens to the front and the rear of the cottage this is an ideal location for couples or a small family to get away from it all and enjoy this historical corner of the Yorkshire Dales. Fully renovated by the current owners who have created a stylish holiday home with lots of character and charm throughout in the shape of stone flooring, stripped pine wall cupboards, exposed stone walls, old beams which all go together to produce a holiday home of some merit. The delightful sitting boasts lovely views out across the front garden to the hills beyond and there is a cosy woodburning stove to sit by after a hard day out on the local moors. The kitchen is pretty and well equipped and there is an adjoining dining room with snug area and patio doors leading out to the rear garden. With two bedrooms, the main double boasting great views and a useful single room with original decorative fireplace and additional bed for children up to the age of twelve, a useful addition. Both are well served by a vintage styled bathroom, again with lovely views across the valley. The rear garden is spacious with a patio area and furniture, where you can relax with a refreshing drink or dine alfresco. There are a good selection of footpaths from the doorstep and the nearby Goose Eye brewery and pub is a great favourite amongst locals. Nearby, Haworth has much to offer including traditional pubs, restaurants, old curiosity shops and cafes. An excellent variety of walks, both easy and strenuous, allow visitors to follow in the footsteps of Catherine and Heathcliff by wandering the fantastic rugged moorland.

Skipton is nearby, with its cobbled streets and delightful castle, while further afield is the Victorian spa town of Harrogate.

A charming historic old cottage, perfect for exploring all this lovely area has to offer.

Laycock is just four miles from Haworth and was originally part of the Oakworth township. The name Laycock is the same as Lacock, which derives from the Old English meaning, stream or watercourse; Laycock village is on Laycock Beck, which feeds into North Beck a tributary of the River Worth. Laycock overlooks the hamlet of Goose Eye, which is just south of the village. Goose Eye is famous for its independent brewery and pub, a great favourite of the locals. Just a short distance from Haworth with its myriad of curiosity and antique shops, alleyways and cobbled streets

Thankfully Sykes as usual were excellent in contacting him for us. Parking was as advertised but the village hall opposite the cottage had regular events which meant if we came back from a day out late we were unable to park. The. Lady. From Sykes was instrumental on getting us the key code for the door as we were unable to contact the owner. We would have like to bbq but the paperwork in the cottage said Sykes did not allow them. We have in the past had cottages where bbq was allowed. But again ten out of ten for Sykes customer support.

The views from the main bedroom are lovely to wake up to and the bed was very comfy. The only draw back was the size of the television, my husband is blind in one eye and I wear glasses and we struggled with the TV as it has a small screen. We loved the log burner it made the cottage very cosy. Our dog enjoyed the walks in the fields that are close by, if you come out of the gate at the front turn left and follow the road round till you come to a public footpath sign that takes you onto some fields that you can walk your dog. We would love to stay again.

Laycock is a picturesque village on the outskirts of Keighley. Lots of local attractions, walks and things to do. Would recommend this cottage and area to friends and family.
