About this property

A charming, detached, character cottage, nestling in a quiet corner of the village green in peaceful Piercebridge, just 10 miles from popular Barnard Castle. Lovingly decorated and furnished whilst maintaining much of its original character and charm, this truly delightful property boasts exposed beams, a traditional sitting room with feature fireplace and cosy open fire and a lovely mature garden offering somewhere to relax during those warm summer evenings. Enjoy a stroll along the nearby River Tees or to the impressive Roman ruins in the village, or, for the more energetic, take advantage of the many walks available in this attractive area including the renowned Teesdale Way, just a few hundred metres from the cottage itself. A short drive away is the fascinating market town of Barnard Castle, with its cobbled streets, quaint alleyways, The Bowes Museum of art and of course its dramatic Castle, while beautiful Raby Castle, the National Railway Museum and the High Force Falls are also nearby. With the Northern Dales and the Lake District waiting to be discovered further afield, this charming holiday home has much to offer the whole family.

With an attractive village green, Piercebridge provides visitors with a selection of excellent pubs and an organic farm shop. Located on the Teesdale border next to the river Tees, the village is just 10 miles east of the popular town of Barnard Castle. Renowned for its Roman heritage, Piercebridge itself dates back to around 70AD and boasts a Roman fort site - a well known ancient monument which forms part of the region's Dere Street Roman Trail. As a stop along both the Teesdale and Cleveland Ways, this village provides an excellent base from which walkers and cyclists can explore nearby Swaledale and Weardale. As well as the two main trails the are many bridleways, footpaths, cycle trails and lovely riverside walks to explore. Other local attractions include the magnificent Raby Castle in nearby Staindrop, the Bowes Museum, York's National Railway Museum, Durham Cathedral and the market town of Barnard Castle. The Lake District and Northumbrian National Park are also within reasonable driving distance.
