About this property

Sledmere 0.3 miles. This property is a unique semi-detached property once part of the former village fire station in Sledmere. Perched on the edge of the village, midway between Driffield and Malton, it has been creatively converted to provide comfortable and luxurious accommodation, with wonderful views over open countryside and farmland. Well placed for exploring both the East Coast and the rolling hills of the Wolds, this cottage is ideal for walkers and cyclists seeking this hidden, historic corner of Yorkshire. Engine Room Cottage offers three bedrooms, two with en-suite facilities and a ground floor family shower room. With spacious and light, open plan accommodation, this property has no expense spared, where you'll find a well-equipped kitchen that is bright and modern, with a fire engine colour theme, tiled floors and quality fittings, while the sitting area has sumptuous leather sofas and a large TV. The spacious open plan living area has a feature window, converted from the original engine room door, complete with two exposed red RSJ beams. It is luxuriously furnished to the highest of standards, with French doors opening onto the rear, enclosed patio - a pleasant spot for relaxing and enjoying the rural views. A short stroll brings you to the local village inn, serving food and local ale, whilst a pleasant walk to the stately home of Sledmere House is well worth it. It's a short drive along country roads to the historic market town of Driffield, which offers independent shops, tea rooms, restaurants and a weekly market day. For culture seekers, there's the added delight of the Hockney Trail, which encompasses the best of the Yorkshire Wolds. The seaside lies within half an hour's drive at Bridlington, a traditional seaside resort with golden sands, a pretty harbour and amusement arcades. Be sure to visit the windswept chalk cliffs of Flamborough and Bempton RSPB Reserve, which offer spectacular coastal views, and with York an easy drive, Engine Room Cottage is well placed for a memorable holiday.

The small village of Sledmere lies in the heart of the Yorkshire Wolds, between the market towns of Malton and Driffield. The village is dominated by the beautiful Georgian stately home of Sledmere House and gardens, and a local inn serving food and real ale can also be found here.

We had a great week staying with our dog & had a relaxing & restful time exploring locally & further afield. Engine Room Cottage is undoubtedly the most dog friendly cottage we’ve stayed in; it was spotlessly clean, very well equipped & Catherine was a superb host - thank you! We hope to return soon!

Engine Room cottage certainly did not disappoint….very thoughtfully prepared by its owner, Catherine, who could not be more helpful. Some superb finishing touches such as Bluetooth speaker, lots of magazines and games to amuse if the weather is poor, and the pass giving access to nearby Sledmere House and Gardens is way above and beyond what we had expected. It’s nice that Catherine clearly cares a lot about the guest experience….she contacted us during our journey to advise of a, really very minor issue that had been discovered during the changeover, which did not affect us at all, but Catherine clearly was concerned that everything was fine. As for location etc, it’s in a really nice place for early morning and evening dog walks around the Sledmere deer park (back to T junction left then right) and other visitor attractions within easy reach, The beach at Hunmanby Gap that is recommended in the guest folder is amazing!

Comfortable and warm, owners obviously take a pride in looking after the place and the customers. Very easy to recommend.
