The Driftwood offers a relaxed, easy-going base for a break on the East Yorkshire coast, set in the quiet corner of High Skirlington near Skipsea. It’s a single-storey caravan with plenty of space for a small group wanting to switch off, breathe some sea air, and settle into a slower pace for a few days. Inside, you’ll find two double bedrooms and a twin, along with a clean, straightforward shower room. The open-plan living space keeps everyone together, cook something decent in the kitchen, gather at the table to plan the day, or unwind in front of the TV after exploring.

Outside, the enclosed decking and hot tub give you a spot to start the morning with a brew or end the evening with a drink, and having off-road parking makes coming and going easy. A small shop sits just a short stroll away for those last-minute bits, while the local pub is reachable with a steady walk or a quick drive. Skipsea offers a long stretch of beach perfect for clearing the head, and the surrounding coast is packed with places worth a wander. Hornsea’s sandy shoreline, promenade, and independent shops make for a pleasant afternoon, while Bridlington brings something livelier with its harbour, amusements, and classic seaside buzz.

Head inland and you’ve got Beverley, known for its Minster, markets, and traditional charm, the sort of place that rewards an unhurried wander and a pint. Nature lovers can make the most of Hornsea Mere for birdwatching or a decent leg-stretch, and the walking routes along the Yorkshire coast give you cracking sea views without needing to overthink anything. The Driftwood puts you within easy reach of all of it: coast, countryside, and a good mix of towns and villages. It keeps things straightforward, helps you unwind, and gives you a solid base for discovering this underrated corner of East Yorkshire.

Situated 10 miles south of Bridlington and 6 miles north of Hornsea, the vlllage of Skipsea sits in a typically rural setting surrounded by rich, agricultural land, yet also rests within one mile of the beach and is close to the cliffs of the North Sea. The village has its own Post Office and general store, a hairdresser’s and a pub. Many of the houses in the village, both old and new, use cobbles from the sea shore in the building. Just outside the village are the remains of Skipsea Castle. The surrounding countryside is excellent for walking and cycling, whilst the nearby seaside towns of Bridlington and Filey boast long sandy beaches and numerous resort attractions. The Deep Submarium at Hull, Sledmere House and Burton Constable Hall are within 20 miles, whilst the shops, cathedral and museum of historic York, the resort town of Scarborough and the North Yorks Moors Steam Railway at Pickering are within an hour’s drive, and Whitby is just a little further, making Skipsea a superb base for a relaxing holiday.
