Appleshine Cottage is a Grade II listed barn, dating back to the 17th-Century, which has been lovingly restored into a characterful holiday home and has retained many of its original features including exposed stone walls and original beams. Located in the small Yorkshire village of Almondbury, Appleshine Cottage enjoys an elevated position within a peaceful and picturesque valley and has stunning 360-degree countryside views. The property looks out towards Castle Hill and The Victoria Tower, a folly which was built to commemorate Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee. On the edge of the Peak District and close to the North Yorkshire Moors, this is a great base for those who love the outdoors with many walks from the doorstep, from a gentle stroll to more challenging treks and trails. Other leisure activities available locally include cycling, golf, horse riding and clay pigeon shooting. Almondbury is on the edge of the ‘Last of the Summer Wine’ country just 4 miles from the popular town of Holmfirth which has a wide variety of shops, bars, cafes and restaurants. There is also a good selection of pubs within a 15 minute walk, some of which offer food. A wider range of facilities can be found in Huddersfield which again is approximately 4 miles. The area is rich in culture with notable theatres in Bradford (the Alhambra) and Leeds (The Grand). The region also plays host to a number of music festivals throughout the year, including Marsden’s jazz festival and Huddersfield’s contemporary music festival. Families will particularly enjoy the Eureka! Science museum at Halifax, 11 miles, Bradford’s National Media Museum, 16 miles, and the Royal Armouries at Leeds, 22 miles. Other places of interest, within easy driving distance, include Bretton Sculpture Park, 9 miles, Haworth and Bronte Country, 22 miles, Manchester, 32 miles and Harrogate 36 miles. The historic city of York can also be reached by car in just over an hour. Appleshine cottage is a warm, cosy, peaceful beautifully well maintained cottage with spectacular views. Both Marcus and Penny were very friendly. Penny was always quick to respond to my mesages. I loved the little hand painted pictures that they had dotted around the place, each one painted by the host herself. It got a bit cooler during our visit and Penny kindly asked us if we wanted the heating on, which made the cottage warm and cosier. Thank you again for the fresh eggs. We wouldn't hesitate staying there again.
