Almondbury was mentioned in the Domesday Book, and the village still boasts several historic landmarks from its illustrious past, such as the 16th-century Wormald's Hall (now the village Conservative club) and the 11th-century All Hallows Church. Some may remember Compo, Cleggy, and Nora Batty from their hometown of Holmfirth on the long-running British comedy series Last of the Summer Wine, while others may recognise the name "Skelthwaite" from the popular American TV series Where the Heart Is as being located in the nearby Colne Valley.
