About this property

Settled in a beautiful location in the hills of West Yorkshire Woodlea Cottage provides a truly serene setting for those looking for an idyllic getaway filled with exploration. This quintessential Grade II listed cottage thoughtfully blends contemporary with character creating a dreamy home-from-home. It lies in a fantastic location beneath Victoria Tower on Castle Hill which dates back to the Iron Age. The historic cottage is tucked away near the village of Almonbury, which is referenced in The Doomsday Book, and is south facing, adorned with beautiful wisteria and encompassed by the picturesque countryside. It overlooks the valley and its beautiful woods. The cottage retains its charm and pays homage to its rich history with a wealth of original features including mullion windows, exposed beamed ceilings, woodburning stove and open fireplace yet offers contemporary conveniences. It also benefits from a patio garden to the front and a courtyard to the rear which are both ideally placed for alfresco dining. Find three off-road parking spaces before being welcome into the entrance hall sitting room home to two plush armchairs, a crackling woodburing stove and an extending dining table offer opportunities to savour dinner in front of the stove’s gentle warmth. Make your way through the cottage to find the fully-equipped kitchen where you can whip up tasty meals ahead of raising a celebratory toast in the courtyard. Later, head into the second sitting room and relax into the sumptuous sofa in front of the TV as the open fire glistens nearby; the musical among you may even want to treat your loved ones to a tune on the piano! The ground floor is completed by a handy utility and cloakroom. Follow the stairs up to the first floor, where you will find a beautiful bathroom and a sleek shower room, perfect for washing away the day’s adventures, along with four well-appointed bedrooms; three doubles, one with en-suite bathroom, and a twin, all of which enjoy breath-taking countryside views. If you can tear yourself away from this idyllic setting, head out to explore the many beautiful villages in the area, namely Holmfirth, Honley, Slaithwaite, Marsden, Hebden Bridge and Haworth home of the Brontes, all of which are bursting at the seams with character and are designed to be explored. Immerse yourself in the area’s culture and heritage at The Yorkshire Sculpture Park, The Hepworth Art Gallery and The Salt Mills which are all just a short scenic drive from Woodlea. The cottage is a haven for keen ramblers thanks to its picturesque setting between four national parks, The Peak District, The Yorkshire Dales, The Lake District and The North York Moors which all house a plethora of walks, trails and hiking opportunities providing guests with endless opportunities for breath-taking views and picturesque panoramas. There are also a myriad of walks and trails through the uninterrupted countryside from the cottage’s front door! All this and more awaits at Woodlea Cottage.

Almondbury, a classic village of the West Riding, is located in the south Pennines only three miles south-east of Huddersfield. Almondbury was mentioned in the Domesday Book, and the village still boasts several historic landmarks from its illustrious past, such as the 16th-century Wormald's Hall (now the village Conservative club) and the 11th-century All Hallows Church. Some may remember Compo, Cleggy, and Nora Batty from their hometown of Holmfirth on the long-running British comedy series Last of the Summer Wine, while others may recognise the name "Skelthwaite" from the popular American TV series Where the Heart Is as being located in the nearby Colne Valley. Almondbury is conveniently located near the northern Peak District and the southern Dales, both of which feature beautiful scenery and excellent hiking trails. Traveling to the historic city of York, the elegant town of Harrogate, or the bustling city of Leeds can also be accomplished within an hour's drive. There are plenty of fun things to do in and around this quaint village, no matter

Beds were all very comfortable, and though we did have a slight problem this was swiftly rectified. I would highly recommend Woodlea Cottage and would be delighted to stay there again.

Beautifully furnished and so spacious, perfect setting for a family get together. We loved the character of the cottage and all the personal touches, it was so well equipped with glasses, mugs, plates etc. A fabulous kitchen, very comfortable beds, cosy lounge. We hope to revisit . Many thanks

We were a family group of 7 adults and had plenty of space - a large bright kitchen/dining area for eating and a cozy lounge for relaxing in the evening. Wish we could have stayed longer!
