Peacefully situated on the moor side above the village of Cowling and boasting far reaching countryside views of the Aire Valley, The Mistal (meaning cow shed or byre) is one of several holiday cottages on Craiglands Farm and is particularly suited for walkers, cyclists and those wanting to embrace rural life.
The Mistal (meaning cow shed or byre) was originally one of four stoneworkers’ cottages and is smallest of several lovingly renovated buildings situated on Craiglands Farm. The accommodation comfortably sleeps four guests and is particularly suited for walkers, cyclists and those wanting to embrace rural life.
On entering the cottage, you will be greeted at once by the warm and homely atmosphere that fills the house. The open-plan layout of the ground floor includes a well-equipped kitchen, dining area, a comfortable sitting room with leather sofas and a magnificent floor to ceiling stone fireplace. After a day out exploring, guests will be able to relax in front of the multi-fuel burning stove and cosy up with a cup of cocoa on those chillier winter evenings. There is also a galleried reading/study area, which is the perfect spot for reading all about the local walking trails. The two bedrooms are on the ground floor, one of which features a convenient zip and link bed, configured as a 6' super-king size bed or twin singles beds on request.
Set against the side of the moor, The Mistal boasts far reaching panoramic views of the Aire Valley. French doors lead out to the elevated, private patio where guests will be able to dine al-fresco while watching sheep grazing peacefully on the rolling green hills and soft valleys. As well as being a Mecca for walkers, this is also cycling country and the property is close to several sections of the Tour de Yorkshire. The Yorkshire Dales are on the doorstep with beautiful traditional villages to explore. A little further afield is the historic city of York. Cowling is the nearest village with historical Skipton just seven miles away. Lake Windermere in the Lake District is 68 miles away for those looking to explore the Lakes.
Craiglands Farm is a smallholding with the owners living in a neighbouring cottage. Free range hens wander at will and at times there will be lambs being bottle fed, as well as pigs living in the nearby woodland!

Absolutely marvelous. It was all much better than expected. The house is perfect for a 4 people family or two couples. We had everything we needed for a one week stay. Also the amenities and the collection of great books and board games was a great joy for us.

A lovely cottage on the hillside above Cowling. Comfortable and well equipped. Welcome hamper full of treats! Walk up to the top of the hill behind the cottage for amazing views. Malham, Skipton, Grassington and other delightful parts of the Yorkshire Dales are all within easy reach.

What a lovely cottage in such a beautiful setting, we thoroughly enjoyed our 3 night stay here last weekend. 10/10 for cleanliness and facilities, the furnishings are all really high quality and the design has been really well thought out with the mezzanine floor to sit and read in the sunshine or have a snooze like I did! We really relaxed here, had the fire going at night it was perfect!
