About this property

Oak Lodge is a bespoke, timber-clad lodge close to the vibrant city of York and sweeping grassland of the North York Moors. This beautiful accommodation has been finished to a high standard throughout and benefits from modern comforts such as full underfloor heating. It is ideal for groups of friends or a family seeking a quiet escape to explore all the area has to offer. Entering the lodge, you will find a superb open-plan living room with a fitted kitchen and sociable dining area, a delightful space to enjoy with your loved ones, whilst taking in the views of open countryside. Create a delicious meal with the generous supply of utensils and modern kitchenware and gather around the table to chat about events from the day. Three bedrooms await after a tiresome afternoon of walking through secluded dales and across magnificent coastline. You have a master bedroom benefitting from an en-suite shower room, while the other double and twin share a family bathroom. The quiet village of Sheriff Hutton is mentioned twice in the Doomsday Book. In 1140, during the reign of King Stephen, a motte-and-bailey castle was built, the remains of which can be seen from Oak Lodge. It is rather popular with walkers and cyclists who come to enjoy the beautiful surrounding countryside. Sheriff Hutton benefits from a village Post Office and general store, artisan wine shop, delicatessen and coffee shop, as well as two pubs. Nearby attractions include, Castle Howard, The North York Moors, James Herriot country and the coastal towns of Whitby, Filey, Scarborough and Bridlington. A superb base to recharge your batteries at any time of the year. Note: This property can be booked with reference 985489, together they can sleep up to 12 people.

Nestled between York and Malton, the village of Sheriff Hutton is within the Ryedale district of Yorkshire. There is a village green and two pubs, both serving food, one dating back to the 1600s. The City of York is only 11 miles away, while the North York Moors Steam Railway in Pickering, and the East coast seaside towns of Bridlington, Hornsea and Scarborough are easily reached. You needed a 4x4 to travel up the drive my car bottomed out several times with the potholes. Outside lights not working couldn’t see a thing, slippery decking slope couldn’t see key safe ridiculous. First initial impressions when entering were very positive, nice space and well laid out.and a welcome food pack Then… handle on the kitchen cupboard fell off, I noticed the floor kick board was kicked in. So the en-suite bathroom, the toilet was dirty,, I mean black stains and residue on the toilet seat, there was mould all over shower tray, water would not drain and after inspection found full of hair, shower glass filthy, shower extractor fan seemed poor under inspection clogged with dust. Main bathroom, the bath panel was kicked in, skirting rotted with damp, chrome filthy. Bedroom 3 with two singles, we used a cot, but both beds had broken slats so fell through when sat on them to dress the baby. I have phots of all this. Asked owner for assistance with outside lighting as it was dangerous his comment still on my phone was, “we had the opposite our lights on all night”,not what I wanted to hear. He came round and asked if all good with the property, it was New Year’s Eve and rather than cause a scene as I was so angry and upset and not in the best of moods and my partner didn’t want me to have a confrontation with him so I said all Ok, I wish I had shown him round I’m sure he would not have believed his eyes. Contacted Sykes sent them the photos, thought there might be compensation, a written apology. What a joke……… i

The lodge itself is in a lovely quiet spot and open plan living is perfect for a group on 6, the only criticism I have is that it's only 2 years old and some of the facilities are already showing signs of over use, for example the sofa and the shower in the main bedroom. Hope that helps
