Barn Owl Hut offers a peaceful escape deep in the North Yorkshire countryside, where the only soundtrack is birdsong and the occasional bleat of sheep. Tucked away at the end of a winding country road, this charming shepherd’s hut is surrounded by rolling hills and stunning rural views, ideal for nature lovers and those seeking tranquillity.
Inside, relax in the cosy open-plan living area with two armchairs and a plush king-size bed, as well as the wood fired stove. Beautifully furnished with comfort in mind, the hut features a granite-topped kitchenette with a two-ring hob, sink, microwave, fridge and kettle, perfect for light meals. There’s a stylish en suite shower room, and guests also have access to a spacious shower in a nearby converted barn, ideal for couples getting ready together. Laundry facilities are also available on request. On sunny days, fire up the gas barbecue and dine al fresco on the patio, or gather around the fire pit in the evenings to toast marshmallows beneath the stars, as you are in a dark sky reserve where you can experience millions of twinkling stars on a clear night. Wake up to sweeping dale views, unwind by the wood-burning stove, and fall asleep under dark, starry skies.
Ideally located near the famous Coast to Coast walking trail, it’s a haven for hikers. You’re also emersed in the dramatic North York Moors and the charming coastal villages of Whitby, Runswick bay, Robin Hood’s Bay, and Staithes, each offering breathtaking scenery, quaint shops, and a rich sense of history. Take time to explore the Jurassic coastline, with vast long golden beaches as well as hidden coves. Step into nature. Slow down. Stay a while.

We had the perfect mini break in Barn Owl. The hut was beautifully laid out and so cosy. The setting was incredible with stunning views all around. Karen and Graham were really friendly and were on hand if we needed but at the same time we were given total privacy. There are no shortage of beautiful walks a short drive away but the best for us was the 5 mile walk we did from the farm itself. There are eating places within a few miles but the coziness of the hut was too much of a draw for us after our walks, so we cooked for ourselves in the hut. The bathroom is surprisingly spacious with a lovely shower and the bed was one of the most comfortable we've ever stayed in. Thank you Karen and Graham, we would love to return and definitely recommend your shepherd's huts.

This homely hut was lovely. We were greeted by welcoming hosts and comlementary sweet treats. We enjoyed using the hut to explore local surroudings before lighting the fire in the evening for a nice drink and games. The hut was filled with extra blankets, kitchen staples and soft funishings. We thoroughly enjoyed as a couples trip away, and looking forward to returning.
