Guests say

Eskview Cottage in Whitby is highly praised for its cleanliness, picturesque location by the river, and the comfort it offers. Guests enjoy the proximity to local attractions and the added bonus of private parking. The outdoor seating area is a highlight, providing a lovely setting for watching wildlife and steam trains, despite some comments about the patio furniture. The cottage is well-equipped, though there are mentions of minor maintenance issues. Thoughtful touches like biscuits and milk are appreciated, adding to the charm of this cosy holiday home.

Guests consistently note the cottage's exceptional cleanliness, with multiple reviews highlighting its spotless condition upon arrival.

The location is celebrated for its stunning views of the River Esk, the passing steam trains, and its convenience for exploring Whitby and the surrounding area. Some guests noted the nearby traffic, but this did not detract significantly from the overall positive feedback.

The cottage is frequently described as comfortable and cosy, with a warm atmosphere. However, there are a few remarks about uncomfortable patio furniture and a settee, as well as noisy floorboards, which slightly affect the comfort score.

Facilities are generally well-received, with a well-equipped kitchen and comfortable furnishings. Some guests suggested improvements such as a larger fridge and additional kitchen items, and there were comments about a toaster only working on one side and missing outdoor table and chairs.

The presence of thoughtful gestures like fresh milk and biscuits on arrival is mentioned and appreciated by guests. While these gestures enhance the experience, it is noted that such extras, while delightful, are not guaranteed.

About this property

This charming, modern semi-detached property, is situated in an enviable position on the banks of the River Esk, in the popular village of Ruswarp. Set in the grounds of a former mill, this comfortable cottage provides excellent accommodation for those wishing to stay in a tranquil riverside setting, but within a few minutes’ drive to the historic seaside town of Whitby. Downstairs, there is a spacious sitting room and a bright sunny kitchen with a dining area to one end. Stairs lead up from the sitting room to the two bedrooms and the contemporary family bathroom. Outside, an enclosed south facing decked patio has gated access to the river, a lovely spot to enjoy a glass of wine and watch the abundance of wildlife on the river - herons, kingfishers and cormorants are amongst the frequent visitors, along with seals that are regularly seen swimming upstream!

With the added benefit of a boat landing, guests are able to bring canoes and kayaks. Just across the river lies the Esk Valley railway line, a superb vantage point to watch the steam trains that regularly pass by in the summer months. Ruswarp village has excellent facilities, including a renowned butcher's, a local inn serving real ales and food and boating on the river. Children will enjoy a ride on the miniature steam railway and Mini Monsterz soft play centre can while away a wet afternoon! A nearby public footpath provides a pleasant twenty minute walk into Whitby, with its narrow cobbled streets, long sandy beaches and famous abbey.

With the stunning countryside of the heather-clad moors close by, and a spectacular coastline, this Ruswarp cottage provides a good base to explore this beautiful area.

Ruswarp lies on the River Esk, with old stone cottages lining the main street. Ruswap has excellent amenities, including a local pub, a village shop and a local butcher. The Esk Valley Walk runs through the village, and it is an easy 25 minute walk to the centre of Whitby. Ruswarp has a regular bus service, and the single track railway has regular steam trains running through.
