Guests say

The Captain's House in Whitby is a well-regarded holiday rental, praised for its excellent location, comfort, and suitability for families and pets. Guests appreciate its proximity to local amenities and the quiet, attractive area it resides in. The property is equipped to accommodate various group sizes and is described as a 'home from home' with a well-equipped kitchen and enclosed garden.

Most guests found the house very clean and comfortable. However, one review mentioned dust and a full hoover, suggesting a slight inconsistency in cleanliness standards.

The location is highly praised for being close to Whitby's centre, quiet, and offering pleasant walks along the river Esk. It is considered perfectly situated for exploring the town and its amenities.

The property is described as spacious and well laid out, with comfortable furnishings and a peaceful atmosphere. Some guests mentioned the beds could be improved, but overall, the comfort level is high.

The house is well-furnished with a fully equipped kitchen and child gates for safety. Some guests suggested improvements such as an additional TV and mentioned issues with heating control, indicating room for enhancement in facilities and maintenance.

While the reviews reflect a positive experience, there is no mention of gifts or special touches that would indicate thoughtfulness. Therefore, it is not possible to provide a score in this category.

Captain’s House is a modern town house in a fantastic location, situated just a short walk away from the bustling heart of Whitby on the Yorkshire Heritage Coast. It has four bedrooms, two of which are en-suite, and an open plan kitchen/dining area, which has views of the river and steam railway, and makes for a great social hub! There is also a separate living room with leather corner sofa with reclining seats - perfect to relax in after an exciting day out. Outside is a good-sized garden, a suntrap in good weather, and which has views of the river and railway and you can see the steam train leave Whitby Station. This location is a haven for walkers and cyclists, and many walks can be accessed from the doorstep, including a riverside walk along the Esk or along the disused railway line between Whitby and Scarborough, known as the Cinder Track, and which calls at picturesque Robin Hood’s Bay. There is even an enclosed playground for the kids in front of the house.

Famous for its links to Bram Stoker’s ’Dracula’ novel, Whitby has a Gothic flavour with its abbey atop the famous 199 steps offering exhilarating views every way you turn from this natural vantage point, across the harbour and town, and into the countryside beyond. The ruins of the abbey stand proudly on top of the East Cliff headland above the busy seaside town of Whitby. The old town has cobbled streets and independent shops galore, as well as a fantastic foodie scene with everything from award-winning fish and chips to gastro pubs, bistros and traditional pub fayre. There are plenty of tea rooms and coffee shops mixed amongst the ice cream parlours and pubs with live music all year round. Whitby plays host to many different festivals and events from the bi-annual Goth weekends, a 60s music festival, a regatta and popular Folk Festival, so keep an eye on the calendar of events. There is a 2 mile stretch of golden sand to explore with rock pools and fossil hunting, or take a boat trip out to sea for a different view of this striking coastline.

Venture further afield and visit the North York Moors National Park for some stunning scenery. Take a steam train journey into the heart of the National Park from Whitby station and snake into lush greenery. You can also visit ‘Aidensfield’ from the TV series ’Heartbeat’ at Goathland. Explore the Yorkshire Heritage Coast and discover the many hidden gems, such as Runswick Bay, Robin Hood’s Bay and Staithes which are all a short drive away. The traditional seaside town of Scarborough is 20 miles to the south and has plenty to offer, with its expanse of beaches, a waterpark and an open-air theatre which has regular international bands and acts performing throughout the summer. There is so much more in the area, including the walled city of York, Pickering and an abundance of historic abbeys across North Yorkshire. For family fun, visit Flamingo Land theme park or take a day trip across to the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Beach ½ mile. Shop 250 yards, pub and restaurant 200 yards.

Absolutely loved the location of this beautiful 3 storey house. Bed pillows were a tad too flat for us though. Other than that, highly recommended.
