Glaisdale is a peaceful village on the edge of the North York Moors National Park, in the Esk Valley. The village has a post office, a butcher (famous for pork pies) and a hotel/pub with restaurant. Whitby and the coast are 9 miles away, as are the quaint moorland villages of Hutton-le-Hole, Lastingham, and Thornton Dale, as well as the market town of Pickering. For something a little more peaceful, visit Saltburn by the Sea, a charming Victorian seaside resort. The North York Moors Railway ends at Grosmont, where you can take a steam train ride through beautiful moorland scenery.

Good equipped cottage plus really helpful owners (they even provided dog bed for us which we forgot to take our own). Stunning villages around and not to far to sea side by car as well. Really enjoyable break for us.

It was cozy, warm with stunning scenery. The only criticism was there wasnât enough sockets in the kitchen so to make it easier we bought one to get us by. Iâm sure the owners (who were lovely) would have provided us with something but we decided to get one anyway. They checked everything was okay on arrival and were available at the house for assistance if needed. There is a selection of different walks which we thoroughly enjoyed. The washer was an added bonus, especially after some challenging wet walks.

Magnificent views, secluded and isolated location added to its delight. The on-line photographs do not do justice to the place. An ice cube tray would have complemented our gin and tonic as we watched the sun go down!
