Mews Cottage in Whitby is well-regarded for its comfort, prime location, and parking convenience. Guests appreciate the property's character, cleanliness, and the quality of furnishings. While some guests encountered parking issues and suggested improvements, the overall experience is positive, with many expressing a desire to return.
Most guests found Mews Cottage to be clean and well-maintained, with only a few isolated comments about dust and minor cleanliness oversights. The property is generally praised for its tidiness and high standards.
The location is highly praised for being quiet yet close to the town centre, with beautiful views and easy access to local attractions. The convenience of the location is a recurring positive theme in the reviews.
Guests frequently mention the comfortable beds and the cosy, well-furnished living spaces. The property is described as a comfortable haven, though a few guests noted the steepness of the stairs as a potential discomfort for some.
The cottage is equipped with good facilities, including powerful showers and a modern kitchen. However, some guests noted the absence of a dishwasher and Wi-Fi issues. The parking situation, while generally a plus, has caused stress for some guests.
There are mixed comments regarding thoughtfulness. A few guests were disappointed by the lack of a welcome pack and the request to strip beds, which is not standard across holiday rentals. As there are no consistent mentions of gifts, the score is set to null.
Mews Cottage is a charming period property located off Whitby’s prestigious St Hilda’s Terrace, near the lovely Pannett Park.
The cottage benefits from its own private parking space for one car, a real boon in the centre of town. It is finished to a very high standard, offering spacious accommodation for five people. A ground floor bedroom and bathroom are a real advantage for visitors with mobility issues.
Park your car immediately in front of the cottage and enter the hallway which leads to a light and welcoming sitting room with views over the town towards the harbour. Relax on the comfortable sofas and, in a quieter moment, borrow a book from the small library. There’s also a TV/DVD and WiFi for entertainment at the end of a busy day sightseeing. A dining area completes the space.
Double doors link the dining area to a large kitchen, fitted with stylish contemporary units.
The ground floor also has a pleasing single bedroom, decorated in sunny shades, plus a bathroom with a bath, shower over, basin and WC.
Moving upstairs, a beautiful king-size double bedroom with en-suite shower room awaits. The décor is so restful and organic: willow-patterned fabrics, a real wood floor and exposed beams, with a lovely easy chair and lamps for reading. Wake up to views over to the harbour.
Across the landing, there is a twin bedroom, tastefully decorated in lavender hues, also boasting long-reaching views towards the town and harbour. Wooden flooring and an original (decorative) fireplace add old-world charm.
To the outside is a small area with seating. Pull up a chair, pour yourself a coffee and breathe in that lovely seaside air – instant rejuvenation!
A short stroll and you are right in the heart of the thriving harbour, with bustling restaurants, cafes and bars which line the waterfront. Rest a while and watch the world go by as pretty boats depart for the heritage coast and children drop their crabbing lines into the River Esk. It’s a wonderful atmosphere.
The Yorkshire coast is a heady mix of rugged cliff tops, quaint fishing villages, peaceful bays and miles of long sandy beaches. Robin Hood’s Bay is a fossil hunter’s paradise and the village, with its maze of cobbled streets leading down to the beach, is picture-perfect. Further south, Bempton Cliffs are home to nearly half a million seabirds, including puffins, making this stretch of coastline the UK’s largest mainland seabird colony.
With so much to see and do, one visit may not be enough. Mews Cottage is a homely and refined base from which to explore this stunning part of the UK.

...But a very nice place to stay none the less...
Stephen
Lovely well equipped accommodation just a short ten minute walk to the harbour. Just had breakfast at the cottage,as most nights ate at The Granby pub for our evening meals. It was also a plus to have your own parking space right out side the property. As other reviews have said stairs could be a issue for the less mobile especially if you had the first floor twin room with the main bathroom being on the ground floor. That said we would defiantly stay there again. Thanks, Steve
