Guests say

The Ticket Office is a charming and quirky cottage, much loved for its unique railway setting, thoughtful decor, and excellent access to Whitby and local walks. Guests consistently praise its cleanliness, well-equipped kitchen, and cosy atmosphere, with many appreciating the novelty of trains passing by. The location is ideal for exploring the area, and the nearby pub is a highlight. Some guests note the compact and unusual bedroom layout, steep spiral staircase, and occasional maintenance issues, but these do not detract from the overall positive experience.

The majority of guests found the property spotlessly clean and well maintained, with only rare mentions of minor issues such as spiders in cupboards. Cleanliness is frequently highlighted as a strong point.

The location is universally praised for its proximity to Whitby, scenic walks, and the novelty of being on a railway platform. The nearby pub and easy access to public transport are also highly valued.

Guests find the cottage cosy and comfortable, especially for couples. However, several mention the compact bedroom, low ceilings, and steep spiral staircase as potential challenges, particularly for older guests or those with mobility issues.

The cottage is described as well equipped with modern conveniences, a good kitchen, and thoughtful use of space. Some guests mention minor issues with the TV, internet, and bathroom size, but overall facilities are rated highly.

Many guests appreciated welcome touches such as milk, cake, and biscuits on arrival, as well as prompt responses to issues. Please note that such gifts are not guaranteed for every stay.

About this property

Small outside seating area, under the arches, with bistro table and chairs.

The little North York Moors village of Ruswarp is just two miles inland from Whitby on the boundary of the National Park. It has a general store, public house and tearoom. There is an impressive viaduct crossing the River Esk, which is one of the region's major landmarks. Over five million bricks were used to build the viaduct, it is 120 feet high and was built to carry the Scarborough to Whitby railway line. The line was closed in 1965 and now the viaduct is a walking and cycle trail. Visitors can enjoy river and sea fishing or spend time boating on the river. As well as the famous North York Steam Railway, train enthusiasts can also enjoy a trip on Ruswarp's miniature steam railway. This village is in a superb location for a memorable holiday.

Great break I would recommend any time. To the property owner ? You have a broken roof slate in the gutter at the front and a blocked downpipe at the roof valley on the side? Hope you dont mind me telling you? Its a great place to stay thanks very much.

We loved it and he loved that he could film and get still photos of the steam train, The cottage was lovely and quirky and everything you need. Thank you for the milk and cake on arrival He loved the spiral staircase and the quirkiness of getting into bed. From kettle to coffee machine and oven to microwave fridge to dishwasher plenty of pots and pans thank you hopefully we will be back again !! The only thing we had a problem is the maple trees sap all over the car, as we didn’t use the car for a week, so one very sticky car !!!
