Sunnyside Cottage in Whitby is highly praised for its cleanliness, comfort, and prime location. Guests appreciate the well-equipped space, cosy atmosphere, and thoughtful touches, including a welcome pack. The property is ideal for small groups and is pet-friendly, though the single bathroom can be a challenge for larger parties. The cottage's proximity to local amenities, the seafront, and parking is frequently commended, despite occasional parking difficulties.
Guests consistently mention the exceptional cleanliness of the cottage, describing it as 'extremely clean' and the 'cleanest cottage' they've stayed in. One mention of unclean crockery seems an isolated incident.
The location is highly regarded for being close to the seafront, shops, and local attractions. Guests find it convenient, with easy access to Whitby's offerings, though parking can be competitive.
The cottage is frequently described as comfortable and cosy, with comfortable beds and a welcoming atmosphere. The size is perfect for smaller groups, but may be a squeeze for six.
Facilities are generally well-received, with the cottage being well-equipped and offering extras like a dishwasher. However, the single bathroom is noted as a limitation for larger groups.
Guests appreciate the thoughtful touches such as welcome packs and dog treats. While these are warmly received, it is noted that such extras, while delightful, are not guaranteed.

Stepping inside, the snug living room at the front of the cottage has an electric fire with comfortable seating for five, plus a characterful rocking chair. Wind down in an evening as you plan the events for the days ahead over indulgent desserts, as well as a glass of something special, either around the dining table or out in the evening sun, surrounded by the twinkling fairy lights. You have the added convenience of a utility room, which can be used as a laundry room after sandy days at the beach. Upstairs on the first floor you have a modern bathroom and two double bedrooms, both beautifully furnished with a vintage twist evoking the cottage’s past. The master bedroom has a TV and a chaise longue, ideal for lounging with a good book. Take advantage of the golden beach stretching from Whitby to Sandsend, which forms part of the stunning Yorkshire and Cleveland Heritage Coast, home to towering cliffs, rocky shores, steep wooded valleys, sheltered bays and sandy beaches. It is a coastline of dramatic views, with the highest point on the east coast of England found at Boulby, near Staithes, where the cliffs are a mighty 200 metres high. Photographic villages and tranquil bays are dotted along the coast.
In Whitby itself, there is plenty to keep all ages entertained. Take the 199 steps to Whitby Abbey, which is said to be the inspiration behind Bram Stoker’s novel, Dracula, or explore the myriad of curio shops. Famous for its fish and chips, Whitby has many award-winning seafood restaurants, as well as trendy bars along the harbour side. Further afield is the North York Moors National Park, which you can explore on the heritage steam train which departs from Whitby station, and see some stunning scenery. Lovely cottage, comfortable, clean and excellent attention to detail (biscuits / tea/ coffee / pet treats) thanks so much. Beds / bed linen and towels very luxurious. Such a lovely home from home, thank you. Location couldn’t be better for the west cliff area and everything but has to offer. Short stroll to the old part of Whitby. House so comfortable and welcoming with so many lovely touches to make our stay comfortable. Noisy neighbours this time unfortunately at number 15 and some chose to leave their dog in the house for several hours which was very distressing for us to hear, poor thing.

The accommodation is ideally situated for visitors to Whitby. We visit in winter which means free parking in nearby West Cliff car park. The beds are clean and comfortable and sitting room is cozy. The cottage has pubs and eateries in close proximity. This was our third stay here and have already booked for next year.

The second time we have stayed at Sunnyside Cottage, which is something we don't normally do. Comfortable, convenient and cosy with a great location. Nice and quiet and away from the hubbub too. Certainly recommend for 3-4 people, although it does sleep 6. Would be bit of a squeeze for 6 I feel. There is a dishwasher provided, so unsure why some of the crockery was put away unclean? We had a lovely time as ever in this quaint cobble streeted cottage.
