Guests say

Cairns Cottage in Whitby is generally appreciated for its charming character, stunning harbour views, and proximity to local attractions. Guests have enjoyed the well-equipped kitchen and the cosy atmosphere, making it a lovely spot for a holiday. Some guests have noted the property's quirkiness and the welcome pack as delightful touches.

Most guests found Cairns Cottage to be clean and tidy upon arrival. However, a few reviews mentioned issues such as a dirty yard, worn bed linen, and a mouldy washing machine seal, suggesting room for improvement in cleanliness standards.

The location is highly praised for its accessibility to Whitby's centre, the Abbey, and local pubs. The views from the cottage are a highlight, although the numerous steps to access the property may be challenging for some.

Guests have found the cottage cosy and the beds comfortable, but there are comments about uncomfortable sofas and saggy mattresses. The multi-level layout provides space but may not suit those with mobility issues.

The cottage is well-equipped for a holiday stay, with a good kitchen and Wi-Fi. However, there are several reports of maintenance issues such as broken appliances, loose fixtures, and outdated safety equipment, indicating a need for attention to facilities.

The welcome pack with bread, milk, and biscuits was mentioned positively, indicating thoughtfulness from the owners. While such gestures are appreciated, it should be noted that these are not guaranteed for every stay.

The views were amazing and in such a lovely part of Whitby. We stayed at the beginning of January when it was freezing and the house got nice and warm very quickly. The attic room was perfect for our 3 & 5 year old, nice they had a bathroom so didn’t need to use the stairs at night. As clearly listed in the description and from other reviews, there are a lot of steps to and from the property as well as 4 floors in the house. This didn’t bother us. We also managed to get parking straight away. Overall we recommend and would return. The only thing that could be better would be to upgrade some of the kitchen equipment - the pans in particular had seen better days!

The property itself was well maintained and very clean, we did enjoy our stay but just would have liked less stairs and steps for our poor old knees!

We got a parking space, but only moved the car once all week. This is a lovely property, but certain things could be so much better and easily sorted. We found the sofa is not comfortable at all. Lightbulbs not working in some parts of the cottage. Curtains in living room have holes and scags. Bedding on kingsize bed, double duvet inside kingsize bedding, cover bobbling. We ended up using bedding from single beds. Wardrobe is full of spare bedding. We went to use the washing machine and the rubber seal underneath was covered in black mould and like a wet sludge. I had to clean it before I could use it. We didn't want to spend our holiday contacting people, about things that housekeeping should be doing, or reporting back to owners.
