Lay your head down in one of the two delightful bedrooms, including a master double bedroom which benefits from a dressing room, and a twin room. The village of Stainsacre is home to a lovely pub, Windmill Inn, lying just a short stroll away, perfect for evening meals and drinks, while the nearest supermarkets are around half a mile from the cottage on the outskirts of Whitby. Close to the cottage is The Cinder Track, a disused railway line turned into a 22-mile walking and cycling route running just inland from the coast from Whitby to Scarborough, offering the perfect way to explore the national park with your family. Just two miles away is the coast where you can embark on further walks, this time with sea views, along the Cleveland Way, coming to the likes of Robin Hood's Bay, a delightful village to stop at for refreshments in one of the pubs or cafés. Enjoy days within the town of Whitby, choosing from an array of attractions with firm favourites being the dramatic Whitby Abbey which sits over the town, reached via the 199 Steps, with the Whalebone Arch and Whitby Lighthouse providing perfect photo ops, and the Captain Cook Memorial Museum shedding light on the history of the town and its famous explorer. Venture further into the North York Moors National Park for walks along the Esk Valley, searching for waterfalls, and hiking the various hills and peaks found here. Enjoy a fun family break or a walking adventure to the North York Moors and coast at The Lodge.

Surrounded by the North York Moors National Park and enjoying a position on the coast is the popular town of Whitby. Home to a wealth of shops, pubs, restaurants and cafés, Whitby boast everything you need. It’s a lovely cosy cottage in a perfect location close to the cinder track. On our arrival the cottage was icy cold and the heating wasn’t working! there is a lovely log stove in the cottage however on this visit there wasn’t any fuel to light it, the first time we stayed there was enough coal and logs left as a starter for your first night. So we had to go out and find a place that sold coal, this and the heating not working wasn’t a great start to a holiday in December. After calling Sykes who were very kind and helpful I later got a call from the lovely owner who talked me through how to top up the water to get the boiler working. Once we’d done this it was a much nicer evening for us. We felt that the lodge had been stood empty as it was so very cold and putting the heat on caused a lot of condensation. It was running down the walls, windows and even the kitchen floor was wet when the heating is on or you used the oven. There was a smell of damp the whole time we were there and some of the internal walls are crumbling due to this problem. We had a lovely stay and enjoyed our holiday and would stay again but only in the warmer months.

I feel that they would have been the same if I had small children with me. I then felt on egg shells the whole time and wouldn't use the garden, was worried the while time that my autistic child would have a meltdown and wanted to keep the dogs separated in case they wanted to play. He continued to complain the whole time. I also wanted to wash the towels and the washing machine was so dirty that I had to clean it 1st but even after that the towels smelled so bad that they couldn't be used again. On the night we arrived we put the kitchen tap on and the pressure forced the tap off and we had to quickly turn off the water and we repaired this ourself, luckily that was just an easy repair of screwing it back on. The one plus was the beds, they were so comfortable and the best that I have ever had in holiday accommodation before.
