Guests say

The Wheel House in Whitby is highly praised for its cleanliness, charming character, and peaceful setting. Guests appreciate the dog-friendly amenities, enclosed garden, and proximity to local attractions. While some suggest minor improvements and additional home comforts, the overall experience is one of relaxation and enjoyment in a beautiful cottage.

Guests consistently note the exceptional cleanliness of the property, describing it as spotless and well-maintained, contributing to a comfortable and pleasant stay.

The property's location is celebrated for its tranquillity and convenience, close to Whitby and other attractions. The scenic views and dog-friendly walking areas are particularly appreciated, although some guests mention slight noise from a nearby road.

The cottage is commended for its comfortable beds and cosy atmosphere. Suggestions for additional furniture and blankets indicate room for improvement, but overall, guests find the property relaxing and inviting.

Facilities such as modern kitchens and bathrooms are well-received, with special mentions of the waterfall shower and secure dog field. However, comments about the rough driveway, lack of a wood-burner, and suggestions for more kitchen equipment and storage indicate some areas could be enhanced.

Many guests are delighted by the thoughtful touches, such as dog treats and toys for children. While welcome packs are inconsistently mentioned, and their presence is not guaranteed, the overall sentiment is that the host is considerate and welcoming.

We has a short break at the Wheelhouse and found it to be comfortable, warm and beautifully clean. The location was perfect for us with Whitby and Robin Hood's Bay a short drive away and there was also a Sainsbury's just down the road. There were beautiful views across Whitby that you could just see from the house and were amazing from the top of the drive. It was great for dog walking too with the secure field onsite and a public footpath across the road. The only issue we had was getting of the drive as it was quite rough and on a slope but this was solved by parking parallel with the house instead of using the bay. And also if we'd stayed longer we would have missed there not being a washing machine. We will probably stay again.

We had such a lovely stay at The Wheelhouse! It’s a beautiful cottage in a gorgeous setting and was the perfect spot for our holiday. The house itself is full of charm and has so much potential to be absolutely perfect with just a few extra home comforts.A few little things we noticed — the driveway is quite rough and made up of gravel and rubble, so unless you have a 4x4 it can be a bit tricky to get up and down, especially as it’s on a slope. Inside, we really missed having a dressing table and mirror in the bedroom, and a chest of drawers would’ve been handy for clothes. It would’ve been lovely to find a small welcome basket on arrival — we arrived late and were desperate for a cup of tea, but there was no milk! The electric heaters also struggled to keep the house warm (the high ceilings don’t help), and we couldn’t help but imagine how perfect a wood-burner would be here. Some cosy blankets to curl up with on the sofa after a chilly day out would be a great touch too. That said, we truly had the best holiday. The Wheelhouse is such a beautiful place to stay — peaceful, relaxing, and full of character. With just a few extra touches, it would be absolutely perfect.
