Built in the late 1800s as a grand hotel, the Metropole still retains its elegance and heritage, you can still enjoy the beautiful old ballroom when events are held, as well as a welcoming bar and a Chinese restaurant which are within the building. Set high on the West Cliff, the Metropole looks out over Whitby’s sweeping golden beach, which can be reached by a zigzagging path leading down to the shore lined with colourful beach huts.
This enviable location places you close to the Whitby Pavilion, home to a vibrant calendar of events including the world-famous Goth Weekends, Steampunk gatherings, Northern Soul events, concerts, theatre and more. We spent a very comfortable 3 nights in this brilliantly located apartment as a couple with our dog and would definitely recommend it. The special dog blanket and treats, personalised card, milk and biscuits were a welcome and appreciated touch. Just love the high ceilings in this property! Fab windows and light coming through but no noise at night, we slept very well. Kitchen has everything you need, although we ate out (fish and chips all 3 nights - we regret nothing!), the sofa was large and comfortable, the shower and bath had great water pressure and plenty of hot water. The bed was huge and - again - very comfortable. We walked in and out of Whitby a couple of times a day easily. We loved the position - we would have walked to Sandsend but we chose the windiest days this year I think to visit 😂.
