For keen walkers and cyclists, Helmsley marks the start of both the Cleveland Way and Ebor Way. Head to Pickering (13 miles) to hop aboard a heritage line all the way to the coast at Whitby (30 miles). Other day trips include Castle Howard (13 miles) or the medieval marvels of York (24 miles).
