Overlooking the duck pond. Set in a beautiful wooded location on a working farm overlooking the farm duck pond, this is a picture postcard setting. The comfortably furnished cottage is all on one level, with a lawned garden and paddock for al fresco dining. There are many walks from the doorstep and a wealth of historic sites within easy reach - Rievaulx and Byland Abbeys, Nunnington Hall and gardens and Duncombe Park. The delightful market towns of Helmsley and Thirsk offer everyday shopping, pubs, restaurants and tea rooms and the scenic east coast resorts of Whitby and Scarborough are an easy drive away. For steam enthusiasts a ride on the North York Moors preservation line is a must. Fishing available nearby.

The hosts were excellent. Not only Walter and his daughter, Sally, but the very friendly Alfie the sheep dog.I cannot comment on local amenities as the nearest place is Helmsley which has some excellent shops, cafes and good parking.If I have to score Ashberry Farm Cottage down it would be that there is not a good signal for either Wi-Fi or mobile phone. But thinking about it that could be a big plus. Afterall we were on holiday. Bird song and bleating sheep is better on the ears than my telephone ringing. Peace and calm is the order of the day.

We have had a very special week in this roomy, comfortable cottage. It's in a gorgeous location with lots of wildlife and beautiful scenic walks from the door. Quiet and peaceful with a lovely garden too. Walter, Sally (& Alfie) are great hosts, welcoming and knowledgeable. Our second visit, we hope to go again soon.

Fabulous cottage in utterly beautiful setting and with excellent hosts. Walks from the door into Rievaulx which include woodland walk where deer were to be seen!! Excellent for relaxation . Very lucky to be there during lambing and to meet the newborns Pixie and Patch. Nothing was too much trouble for Sally and Walter who were very welcoming and knowledgeable hosts...even lending screw drivers to fix small issue with car. Slept well and was sad to leave. Will be returning.
