Duck Cottage receives glowing praise for its immaculate cleanliness, stylish décor, and welcoming hosts. Guests consistently highlight the peaceful village setting, proximity to a friendly pub, and the cottage’s well-equipped, comfortable interiors. Many appreciate the thoughtful touches and attention to detail, making it feel like a home from home. While a few mention the lack of local shops and some found the beds firm, the overwhelming sentiment is highly positive, with many guests eager to return and recommend the property to others.

Cleanliness is repeatedly described as exceptional, with numerous guests calling the cottage spotlessly clean, immaculate, and the cleanest they have ever stayed in.

The location is widely praised for its peaceful village charm, proximity to York and other attractions, and the convenience of a pub across the road. A few guests note the absence of local shops, but this does not detract significantly from the overall positive impression.

Guests frequently mention the cottage’s comfort, with special praise for the beds, bedding, and cosy atmosphere. A small number found the beds firm, but most found them extremely comfortable.

The cottage is described as well-equipped, modern, and maintained to a high standard, with quality appliances and thoughtful amenities. The only minor criticism is the absence of a washing machine.

Many guests mention thoughtful touches such as welcome packs, cakes, and gifts for both humans and pets. While these gestures are highly appreciated, please note that such gifts are not guaranteed for every stay.

Duck Cottage was once a workshop for local woodworkers; it has been lovingly renovated to delight guests on arrival. The original beams are still retained harking back to its former days.

You are in an idyllic village setting, just opposite the heart and soul of the community - the village green and the friendly local pub, serving hearty meals with an outdoor beer garden. This is an ideal choice for those who love the great outdoors as you will be right on the doorstep of the Howardian Hills (Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty). The owners have taken care to describe some of their favourite nearby walks as well as lists of different attractions to choose from in the welcome folder. You will be spoilt for choice, as there is lots to see and do in the area.

The cottage itself is tastefully furnished throughout. The layout is all on the ground floor, with just one step in the living area down to the kitchen. The property is bright and modern, with skylights bathing you in sunshine. On entering there is an entrance hallway leading you to the master double bedroom. Branching off the hallway is the shower room. Then further down the hallway it opens into the living area. This is a carefully laid out and tastefully furnished room, ensuring your comfort and providing a welcoming space to unwind in an evening. The well-equipped kitchen also has a breakfast bar. The kitchen leads to a twin bedroom, which can be made up as a double on request. Outside is a garden room with sofa and TV and for those chiller evenings a stove to keep you cosy. Attached to this is a private patio area with garden furniture so that you can dine outside in the summer months, as well as an enclosed garden beside the neighbouring owners’ home with a lawn perfect for exercising your pet dog.

Also being located between both the North York Moors National Park and the Yorkshire Dales you are in a great area for exploring. It is only 12 miles from the historical walled city of York, with medieval cobbled streets, Clifford’s Tower and many other attractions including the Jorvik Viking centre. The stately homes of Castle Howard, Newby Hall and Beningborough Hall are nearby, and Kirkham, Rievaulx and Fountain’s Abbey ruins are all worth a visit. Mother Shipton’s Cave at Knaresborough is a quirky day out, where you can see how the waterfall preserves objects by turning them to stone and hear tales of the ’witch’ who lived there. For younger visitors, Flamingo Land Theme Park and zoo is around a 45-minute drive away. There are also many outdoor activities to enjoy including golf, fishing at the nearby well stocked lakes, and zip lining through the treetops at Dalby Forest. This is a fabulous choice for year-round breaks to the country. Shop, pub and restaurant ¼ mile.

A lovely cottage in a lovely village. The cottage is modern and well equipped. The owners were very welcoming and helpful. We used the cottage as a base to visit local towns and cities. It’s about 12 miles from York. The pub is directly opposite and their food was excellent, I can especially recommend the pizzas. They open from Wednesday to Sunday. The only downside was a lack of a local shop for milk, bread etc. Easingwold is about 5.4 miles away and has bakers, small supermarkets and a number of takeaways.it’s worth visiting. There is a fuel station a few miles away,. I only realised that it has an excellent deli, with frozen ready meals, a bakery section etc when we were on our way home. You can also stock up on food here. It’s a lovely cottage in a very quiet location if you need to get away or as a base to explore the area.
