Half Moon Cottage receives high praise for its cosy, comfortable atmosphere and charming village location, making it an excellent base for exploring York and the surrounding countryside. Guests appreciate the well-equipped kitchen, open fireplace, and dog-friendly features. The hosts are frequently described as helpful and communicative, with thoughtful touches enhancing many stays. While some mention minor issues with the bathroom, garden maintenance, and occasional shower problems, these do not detract from the overall positive experience. The cottage is especially noted for its warmth, cleanliness, and welcoming feel.

The majority of guests found the cottage to be very clean and well-presented, with several specifically mentioning spotless conditions. A few minor comments about garden tidiness and a 'tired' bathroom were noted, but these were exceptions rather than the rule.

The location is highly praised for its peaceful village setting and convenient access to York, the Dales, and other attractions. Guests enjoy the proximity to a friendly local pub and scenic walks, though some note the lack of village shops.

Guests consistently describe the cottage as cosy, warm, and comfortable, with particular appreciation for the beds and the open fire. Occasional comments mention the cottage being a little small for three adults, but overall comfort is rated very highly.

The cottage is well-equipped, with a good kitchen, dishwasher, washing machine, and enclosed garden. Some guests mention minor maintenance issues, such as the bathroom needing updating and occasional shower problems, but these are generally outweighed by the positives.

Many guests mention thoughtful touches such as welcome gifts (wine, Prosecco, chocolate, crisps), battery-operated candles, and helpful communication from the hosts. Please note that such gifts are not guaranteed for every stay.

Wanted to move in! Stayed for a week and did not want to leave! Owner texted on the day I was due offering assistance with directions if needed and the crisps and wine were most welcome on arrival. Cottage is located in a rural village and was the ideal location to explore all of north Yorkshire. Whilst there is no shop in the village there are good amenities in the near by towns of Thirsk or borroughbridge. The cottage was clean and welcoming and had a cosey and homely feel and was quiet and peaceful. Appreciated the extra touches such as the battery operated candles and the torch by the bed and thought had been given to provide everything needed for a lovely stay. In short great area, great cottage, great county and a great week 😃

What a lovely little village with loads of history and enjoyable walks. The cottage was very comfortable although initial a little cold as the night storage heaters were off when we arrived and no initial fuel for open fire. Portable oil heaters were available to keep the chill away until the next day. Everything you need to cook up a meal. Bathroom a little tired but effective. Comfortable beds x. Thank you Nicola

Great little cottage and village. Fantastic village dog friendly pub. Well equipped cottage with open fire and enclosed small garden. Bathroom needs updating as bath seal loose and needs bedside lamp. Really enjoyed our stay.
