The Old School House is a charming, character filled cottage in the heart of Kirkbymoorside, offering a welcoming retreat for couples, friends and families. Enter into the inside/outside courtyard, where seating provides a lovely spot for morning coffee or evening drinks. Walk through the bifold doors into the heart of this cottage and relax beside the wood burning stove in the comfortable living area, complete with a Smart TV, before gathering around the dining table. The country style kitchen includes a gas hob, electric oven, dishwasher and microwave.

On the first floor is a twin bedroom with a door opening onto a flat roof overlooking the courtyard, as well as a dressing room and house bathroom with a shower over the bath. The second floor is home to a king-size bedroom with a vaulted ceiling and exposed beams, plus one step down into its en-suite shower room. Guests can also enjoy use of a swimming pool at the owners’ home, just a five-minute drive away.

Step outside and you are immediately among Kirkbymoorside’s friendly pubs, useful shops, inviting tearooms and independent businesses. This attractive market town has a relaxed, traditional atmosphere, making it easy to enjoy leisurely mornings, browse local treasures or settle in for a meal without travelling far.

A short drive takes you into the magnificent North York Moors National Park, where heather covered moorland, wooded valleys and far reaching views provide a spectacular backdrop for days outdoors. Miles of footpaths and cycle routes cater for gentle outings and longer adventures, while Dalby Forest offers woodland trails, cycling routes, picnic spots and activities for all ages.

Nearby Pickering is well worth exploring and is the starting point for the North Yorkshire Moors Railway. Board a heritage steam train for a memorable journey through beautiful countryside towards the coastal town of Whitby, famed for its dramatic abbey, historic harbour and winding old streets.

For grand architecture and landscaped grounds, spend a day at Castle Howard, one of Yorkshire’s most impressive historic houses. Wildlife enthusiasts can visit the National Centre for Birds of Prey near Helmsley, while the handsome market town itself offers independent shops, places to eat and the striking ruins of Helmsley Castle.
