Kate's Cottage is a charming, cosy retreat in a peaceful village near York, ideal for couples and dog owners. Guests consistently praise its cleanliness, welcoming touches, and well-equipped amenities. The location is perfect for exploring the Yorkshire countryside, with excellent walking routes and a friendly local pub nearby. While the large roll-top bath adds character, several guests found the lack of a proper shower and limited hot water a drawback. Overall, the cottage offers a warm, comfortable base for a relaxing break, with thoughtful extras that make guests feel at home.
Multiple reviews highlight the cottage as spotlessly clean and extremely well maintained, with no negative comments regarding cleanliness.
The location is frequently described as peaceful, beautiful, and ideal for exploring local attractions, walking, and visiting nearby towns. The only minor drawback mentioned is the limited amenities in the village itself.
Guests find the cottage very cosy, warm, and comfortable, with a comfy bed and inviting atmosphere. Some mention the cottage is a little small for longer stays or for those bringing lots of belongings, and several note the bath is impractical for some guests.
The cottage is well equipped and has everything needed for a pleasant stay, including a wood burner and kitchen essentials. However, the lack of a stand-up shower, limited hot water, and a very large bath are recurring issues. Parking is noted as tight for larger cars.
Guests frequently mention thoughtful touches such as welcome packs, fresh flowers, and dog-friendly provisions. Please note that these gifts are not guaranteed for every stay.

The local village pub is a mere three minute walk from the cottage and is well known for its beer festivals and pizza nights. We saw Kates Cottage last year after spending a week in Maple Cottage next door. Impressed with what we saw from the exterior, we decided to book Kates this year. We were not disappointed.Well appointed and comfortable, it had everything we could need. The simple upstairs layout works well for a compact cottage. The outside space was a nice place to relax. There is plenty of good walking to be done without moving the car. We did 3 lovely walks over 20km and it was a short drive to do some walks on the moors. On days which were too hot to walk we visited York which is easily accessible via the Park and Ride or by train from Malton. Also the Yorkshire Lavender Farm was worth a visit. Plus its only 4 miles from Castle Howard. There are no shops in the village but Malton & Hoveringham are nearby. The local pub, the Grapes is open Wednesday to Sunday, does food & its a 5 minute stroll from the cottage. The bath, which has previously been mentioned, is too big and not very practical but it has a shower attachment & we managed with that. All in all we enjoyed our break in Kates and would highly recommend it. Perfect break away from it all. Its very dog friendly, everything is thought of if you have a dog even a tag for your dog to wear whilst staying at the cottage.

Overall a lovely little cottage with plenty to do out & about. Very cosy on cooler evenings with the wood burner. And a decent little courtyard for sunnier days. The bath is huge & it’s not possible to fill it before the water starts to run cold. Lots of walks from the door & close to lovely towns such as Malton & Helmsley.

Lovely place, enjoyed the fire and atmosphere it created...but there's no gas in the village and it's got an old style immersion heater making having a decent bath impossible!... local pub was a disappointment!...
