Dirty hot tub water. Looks neglected needs updating. Good communication with caretaker though.

Lilac cottage is a great base if you're looking to travel in to York & is very close to the designer outlet. There is a lovely pub up the road about 5 minutes walk away & a small but well stocked shop across the road from the pub, both had lovely staff. The cottage itself is nice & well equipped with most things you'll need for your stay including pot liquid, shampoo, shower gel/bubble bath & hand soap. There were plenty of towels for us to use and were able to wash & dry them as there's a washing machine & washing line/clothes airer.A few little things could do with looking at such as the very squeaky door on the small bedroom & the decking area. The outside area is nice but needs some TLC as the decking boards are a bit rickety & splintering in some places, the furniture is not what is shown in the photos & has no cushions so was very uncomfortable which is a shame as we were visiting on the hottest week of the year so far and couldn't sit outside with it being uncomfortable. The decking area is quite open and you do have neighbours either side which if you're not used to living like this can be a bit odd but overall we had a nice stay and would go back, hopefully would see the improvements made which would be really nice.

Location excellent for our needs, just felt for the money the interior could do with a freshen up. Fresh milk in the fridge on arrival - unexpected but very nice. Property could do with a freshen up, a new coat of paint inside wouldn't go a mis, as the place smelt a bit musty. Un- ironed bed linen.
