There are numerous walks and cycling trails from the doorstep, and just beyond, lie the Howardian Hills, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Local attractions include stately homes at Sutton Park, Castle Howard and Nunnington Hall, abbey ruins at Byland and Rievaulx, and family fun at Flamingoland and Go Ape. Bustling market towns can be found at Easingwold, Malton and Helmsley, and there are numerous picturesque villages with traditional country inns serving generous Yorkshire hospitality and real ales. The ancient city of York is just a 20-minute drive away and appeals to all ages, with historic buildings and museums, river boat trips and street entertainers. Easily accessible are the North York Moors, with the famous steam train and miles of sandy beaches at the popular seaside resorts of Scarborough, Whitby and Filey.
