No smoking.. Ryegate Cottage is a charming traditional stone period home, perfectly positioned in the heart of the picturesque market town of Helmsley. Brimming with character, the cottage showcases a wealth of original features, including exposed stone walls, large, mullioned windows and wide oak floorboards that create a warm and inviting atmosphere throughout.

Upstairs, the cottage offers two comfortable double bedrooms, thoughtfully arranged to ensure a restful stay. The principal bedroom, located at the rear, benefits from its own en suite shower room, while a house bathroom serves the second bedroom. Outside, the spacious garden is a real highlight. A patio area sits close to the house, ideal for al fresco dining, while steps lead up to a lawned garden with mature shrubs and trees, creating a peaceful outdoor retreat.

We booked this cottage for a week but left after just one night and were forced to find alternative accommodation due to a number of significant comfort, maintenance and safety concerns.The property was furnished with very old, outdated furniture and there was no comfortable seating available anywhere in the cottage. The stairs were extremely steep, particularly the final section leading to the landing, which presented a potential safety risk.The shower doors were broken on arrival and my husband had to repair them himself in order for us to use the shower. In addition, I slipped on the runner on the landing as it had no non-slip grips or securing mechanism underneath to prevent it from moving.The cottage was also excessively cluttered throughout, making it feel cramped and poorly maintained.Taken together, these issues meant the property was not suitable for the week-long stay we had booked. We did not feel comfortable or safe remaining there and therefore had no option but to secure alternative accommodation after the first night

Characterful cottage but no visitor information, garden looks abandoned, one of ovens didn’t work, one of fridges needs new seal, shower room needs a major upgrade, inadequate comfortable seating or dining arrangements for 4 people - also in v noisy position by industrial estate road. We did try the contact number but got no answer. As such we felt it was very expensive for what it is. Also we noticed it’s up for sale!
