Guests consistently praise its beautiful location, friendly and helpful hosts, and proximity to scenic walks and an excellent village pub. While some mention minor maintenance issues and the steep steps, the overall experience is highly positive, with many guests eager to return and recommend it to others.
The majority of reviews describe the property as very clean, tidy, and well-presented. Only a few minor comments mention issues such as worn cushions or blinds, but these are exceptions rather than the norm.
Guests consistently highlight the idyllic, peaceful setting, beautiful countryside, and easy access to walks and the local pub. The location is frequently described as perfect for a relaxing break.
Most guests find the cottage cosy and the bed comfortable, with a relaxing atmosphere. A few mention issues with the bed or the shower-over-bath arrangement, but overall comfort is rated highly.
The cottage is well-equipped for two, with good parking, WiFi, and a private garden. Some guests note the lack of a full oven, slow hot water, and maintenance needs (e.g., blinds, shower), but these do not detract significantly from the overall experience.
Hosts are frequently described as welcoming, friendly, and helpful, sometimes providing thoughtful touches such as a bottle of wine. Please note that such gifts are not guaranteed for every stay.
A charming 18th century, stone-built detached barn conversion, originally a hayloft, situated in the pretty village of Lastingham. Stone steps lead up to the entrance of the cottage, which is all on one level. This lovingly restored hayloft is stylishly furnished and decorated with a contemporary open-plan living area, yet remains cosy and inviting. The owners live in the adjoining property and personally welcome guests. With excellent walking from the doorstep, numerous villages and market towns to explore within the beautiful North York Moors National Park, and easy access to the East Coast, this makes an ideal base for an enjoyable, relaxing holiday.
Situated on the southern edge of the North Yorkshire Moors, the small village of Lastingham has a unique and fascinating history. A monastery was founded in 654 by St Cedd and flourished until the Danes destroyed it in the 9th century. In 1078, Stephen, the Abbot of Whitby, persuaded William I to restore Lastingham. However, Stephen and his monks left abruptly to set up a new monastery in York, leaving only the crypt and the apse of the church complete. Amazingly, the crypt has survived unaltered over the centuries. Local attractions include the North Yorkshire Moors, Pickering Castle, the Wheeldale Roman Road and the Rievaulx Terrace and Temples. For lovers of the Great Outdoors, there are plenty of beautiful and scenic walks leading directly from the village.

Good bathroom, very comfy bed and small bit comfy living area. Small kitchen with just 2 rings and a combi oven but OK for short stays. Quiet village but pub nearby.

The accommodation is clean, comfortable and spacious. Good off-street parking A great location in a picturesque village with walks from the door or a short drive away in Rosedale and Farndale. (The Rosedale railway walk is recommended). We would definitely stay here again.

Kitchen area is small, but should be OK for two. Generous outdoor area, right next to the beck. Friendly owners, and Lastingham is a lovely little hamlet.
