Frequently referred to as the ’smallest house in York’, this delightfully quirky holiday home was formerly the surgery for the local doctor who lived next door, which is now occupied by the owner. Carefully converted to create stylish, contemporary accommodation, The Little House enjoys an enviable location on what has the unofficial title of the ’Notting Hill of the North’, with its vibrant culture of cafés, restaurants, bar and gift shop, all within walking distance of The Little House. Rowntree Park, a 20-acre park by the River Ouse, is close by, and a short stroll leads to the medieval walls and the vibrant city centre with its world-famous attractions. Here you will find a wonderful mix of old and new with exquisite architecture, including the magnificent Minster and a maze of cobbled streets packed with independent shops as well traditional tea rooms, including the renowned Betty’s Tea room. Visit the Merchant Adventurer’s Hall, Clifford’s Tower and the Castle Museum, along with the galleries and theatres. There are numerous restaurants and a wide selection of pubs serving real ale close by. With out of town shopping at Monks Cross, Vangarde and the Designer Outlet, a variety of festivals and Christmas markets, as well as horse racing and events at the Knavesmire Racecourse, York is popular at all times of the year. Stately homes close by include Castle Howard and Beningbrough Hall, and easily accessible are the Yorkshire Dales, the North York Moors and the coastal towns of Scarborough, Whitby and Filey. Quirky and cute. Ideal base for a city break. Vibrant area with good local shops and places to eat. Downstairs spacious and comfortable. Missing some basics e.g washing up liquid but welcome wine and crisps a lovely touch and good tea and coffee provided.Sitting room is really tiny and sofa could do with being renewed. Lots of banged heads which was amusing - it is what it says; a little house.

Cosy spot, very accesible to the centre & esentials (corner shop, greengrocer). Handy parking on next street over too with the host provided permit. They've maximised the space well and even managed to squeeze in a dishwasher. Some minor notes (that should not put you off staying here at all but worth knowing): The accommodation is well planned but doesn't lend itself particularly to rest days, the living room area is compact and the sofa isn't especially comfy, there's no space for a desk to catch up on emails etc. It's perfectly fine to relax in front of the telly for an hour of course and after all, you want to be out exploring the wonderful city most of your time anyway. Acces to the door key was straightforward but we did find the front door was difficult to reliably lock from the inside but not the outside which was a bit odd, kept getting stuck, so just be extra mindful with that. We found wifi in the house quite patchy and relief on our mobile data plans mostly.

Definitely a 'Little House '. Ideal for a couple for a week. Not far from centre, shops, restaurants and pubs. Permit for parking is fantastic.
