Nestled on the outskirts of Downpatrick in Annacloy, County Down is the charming two-bedroom cottage, Annacloy Cottage. Enjoying a location next to your hosts, who run a small family smallholding in the fields nearby, and an award of ‘Certified Tourist Establishment’ by Tourism Northern Ireland, Annacloy Cottage is the perfect base for couples or a family of four looking to escape to Northern Ireland. Be welcomed into the spacious kitchen, where the budding chef of the group can look forward to conjuring up creative dishes in the well-equipped kitchen, along with a handy dishwasher and washing machine for keeping your space tidy! Settle down to savour a delicious meal at the dining table, as the wine is poured and plans are made for the days ahead. If the weather is nice, why not take advantage and dine alfresco out on the private patio as you toast to a wonderful getaway - the cottage also has a private garden with views to the Mourne mountains. As the evening cools, retreat inside and sink back into the plush sofa as you enjoy a family movie night on the TV. Pour in the bubbles and indulge in a soothing soak in the bath with your favourite book. When your eyes start to grow heavy, retire to one of two well-presented bedrooms to catch your rest in - one with a double bed, the other with a triple bunk, each with plenty of storage for your belongings. Explore your local surroundings, where budding historians can delight at the rich heritage of Downpatrick, home to the fascinating 12th-century ruins of Inch Abbey which overlooks the Quoile River, Down Cathedral, St Patrick’s Grave and the fantastic Down County Museum which is housed in a former 18th-century prison. Continuing through the town, you will find a good selection of pubs and restaurants, where you can sample the local delights and have a night off from the kitchen, The Saint Patrick Centre, where you can learn about the former patron saint’s life, and the expansive Downpatrick Racecourse. Head over to the charming village of Annacloy, where you will find a welcoming bar serving tasty local ales and a well-stocked convenience store for picking up ingredients to whip up a flavourful meal in the comfort of Annacloy Cottage - the nearby villages of Crossgar, Saintfield and Ballynahinch are also a short drive away for supplies, as is the larger town of Downpatrick. From Annacloy, you will have easy access to the beautiful beaches of Ballyhornan, Kilclief, Tyrella, Minerstown and more, with their glorious sands just waiting for you to enjoy a fun-filled day, whether that’s spent sea swimming, settling down for a picnic, paddling the shores or building sandcastles with the little ones. The charming coastal village of Strangford, with restaurants serving excellent local seafood, is also a short drive away, as is the seaside town of Newcastle, at the foot of the nearby Mourne Mountains. Be sure to check out the nearby National Trust site of Castle Ward, a superb 18th-century Gothic-style mansion which offers Game of Thrones Tours and a stable-yard theatre. Two other National Trust properties, Rowallane Gardens and Mount Stewart, are also within easy reach and it's possible to take a longer day trip to the iconic North Coast, home to the National Trust's Giant's Causeway and Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge. For an unforgettable escape to Northern Ireland, secure your stay at Annacloy Cottage.
Annacloy, a little rural community in County Down, sits perfectly between the towns of Downpatrick and Ballnahinch. You may try local ales at the village pub, stock up on last-minute necessities at the convenience store, and take picturesque walks along the Annacloy River in the village. Crossgar, a larger village, is only a short drive away and has a wide variety of cafes, stores, and restaurants. For a really unforgettable eating experience, Fodder, an award-winning outdoor tipi restaurant, is located in Downpatrick.
