In the heart of the Scottish countryside close to the sea lies the Arbuthnott Estate, home of the Arbuthnott family for over 900 years and more than thirty-five generations. Arbuthnott Holiday Cottages are a perfect base to explore this area of fascinating history. Situated just 3½ miles from the coast and with easy access to Royal Deeside, guests can have energetic or relaxing holidays here - the choice of activities is endless! The road network is very good, making it an ideal location from which to explore much of Scotland.
Comfortably furnished, they make a great choice at any time of the year, to enjoy the peace and solitude of this unspoilt area. Cloud Howe is one of three cottages situated in the Old School, which has been sympathetically restored to provide cosy cottages, and are named after the renowned novels of local author Lewis Grassic Gibbon. The cottages are less than 10 minutes in the car to Inverbervie. Arbuthnott house is officially open to the public 10 days a year, although the owners are delighted to book in small groups to the house and gardens, appealing to many enthusiasts - email arbuthnotthouse@gmail.com to arrange a time.
All cottages are well furnished and equipped with an enclosed garden area at the back and open garden at the front. They are next to a playing field that has a play park in it. There are plenty of walking and cycling opportunities nearby. Inverbervie with its shingly beach and good coastal walks is just 3½ miles away, with many of the facilities you may need. Just 9 miles away is the bustling market town of Stonehaven with an outdoor heated pool – brilliant in summer. Take a trip to Dunnottar Castle, a proud monument overlooking the sea near Stonehaven and the inspiration for the location of the Disney film, Brave. Montrose, with clean sandy beaches, golf courses and leisure activities is just 13 miles away and it is easy to access the Angus Glens from here. You may want to travel on the Victorian Heritage Trail, through Edzell and Fettercairn towards Banchory.

Lovely cottage. Perfectly equipped and in a good , besutiful position and area. Easy check in and check out. The house was lovely and warm when we arrived. Highly recommended.

very well appointed cottage , so roomy it doesn't feel like a cottage, Cloud Howe has a nice view of the surrounding countrysidei. We appreciated the helpfulness of Emily. Thanks all round for an enjoyable stay. In particular Arbuthnott Church is a gem and the short stroll from the church to Bervie Water is recommendedWe recommend Cloud Howe for those seeking a quiet rural retreat. When we arrived someone else was already in the cottage we had booked and paid for, so we had to take the smaller one next door. We asked to move the next morning and were told we could move but there would be no cleaner or clean bed linen until the next day. Obviously we didn't move to beds someone else had used. We said we would stay if we were refunded the difference and were told they couldn't do that.Poorly managed and poor customer care of a cottage in a lovely location.
