Reviewers are unanimous in their appreciation of the cottage's cleanliness, describing it as 'very clean' and well-maintained, which indicates a high standard of hygiene.
The cottage's location is praised for its beauty and tranquility. While it is described as a bit remote, the accessibility of taxis and proximity to Aberdeen suggest a balance of seclusion and convenience.
The comfort of the cottage is highlighted by guests, with mentions of a firm mattress and extra duvets for cold nights. The overall sentiment suggests a comfortable stay, though preferences for mattress firmness may vary.
Facilities are well-received, with positive remarks on the kitchen, dining room, and utility room. The provision of essentials and the mention of a Christmas tree indicate good maintenance and amenities.
The hosts' thoughtfulness is evident through gestures like leaving bread, milk, and local delicacies. While such kindness is greatly appreciated by guests, it's worth noting that these personal touches, though likely, are not guaranteed for every stay.

The cottage is only a few miles from the bustling seaside town of Stonehaven: the wonderful open air Olympic sized heated swimming pool, open in the summer, attracts many visitors and the bustling harbour is a great place for a meal or drink overlooking the comings and goings. Wander around the interesting shops, or try a round at the local 18-hole golf course. The nearby Dunnottar Castle, sitting on the rugged coastline, is well worth a visit, and if you are here at New Year, you should not miss the Fireballs, a spectacular display where locals swing flaming spheres through the harbour to ward off evil spirits before throwing them in the sea. The cosmopolitan city of Aberdeen is a mere 15-minute drive, with a multitude of activities and attractions. Inland, visit the scenic Royal Deeside valley with picturesque towns and villages and the many castles including Balmoral. Further afield you’ll find ‘The Whisky Trail’ with centuries-old distilleries across the region or enjoy family days out with superb walks, cycle routes and clean sandy beaches.

Sauchenshaw Cottage is very clean, lovely and peaceful in a pastoral setting. Ron & Allison are excellent hosts leaving breads, milk, tea and coffee for us. Aberdeen Butteries were delicious. Having olive oil, salt and pepper on hand was helpful. Great kitchen, dining room, conservatory and utility room, Master bedroom mattress is quite firm. Ron & Allison provided extra duvets for cold nights. Sauchenshaw felt like our home in Aberdeenshire 20 yrs ago…quite special.Family of 6 adults stayed 5 nights Sep. 2025
