Guests say

Ivy Cottage is a secluded property offering a comfortable stay with beautiful surroundings. Guests appreciate the homely feel, comfortable beds, and the power shower. The location is ideal for exploring nearby towns and countryside. Some guests noted the need for curtains and garden furniture, and while the kitchen is well-equipped, the lack of a freezer in the main house was mentioned.

The property generally appears to be clean, with specific praise for spotless bedding, towels, and bathroom. However, the mention of a filthy chest freezer in the garage suggests room for improvement in some areas.

The cottage's location is highly praised for its quietness and proximity to local amenities and scenic spots, making it an ideal base for exploring the area.

Guests find the beds and sofas comfortable, and the presence of a power shower is appreciated. However, the lack of curtains in some areas and inconsistent heating are noted as detractors from overall comfort.

While the kitchen is sufficiently equipped for cooking and the property has a good shower, issues with non-working freezers, a small TV with poor reception, and slow Wi-Fi impact the score. The lack of essential items like loo paper and an information folder also suggests a need for better maintenance and facilities.

There is no mention of gifts or extra thoughtful touches provided by the hosts in the reviews, so it is not possible to assess this category.

The worst cottage we’ve ever stayed in in over 10 years of cottage holidaying. On arriving the cottage looked poorly maintained with the gravel path in disrepair and what I assumed should be the outsider seating area broken concrete (no outside furniture). It didn’t get much better when we went inside. It looked like someone had started renovations and gave up. The kitchen units were fairly new but the wall units were crooked, the taps were wobberly and the back of the base sink unit looked like the back had been ripped out to fit around the pipes. The kitchen table was a small two seater that had paper stuffed under the legs to stop it wobberling and in all honesty wouldn’t look out of place in a skip. The lounge looked nothing like the website pictures. Different fireplace different carpet no pictures or mirrors on the walls. No curtains or blinds in both the kitchen or lounge or even the bathroom. There was a dvd player but no dvds no books no hair dryer no washing up liquid or even no loo paper. It was definitely NOT the home from home experience we were expecting or believed it would be. If you are looking for somewhere to drop your bags and go just come back to eat and sleep like in a hostel then it would be okay as the beds were comfy and the shower was good and the kitchen had sufficient equipment to cook. There was a fridge but the freezer was in the garage and I wouldn’t have put a thing in it it was filthy. There wasn’t even a vacuum to clean only a old broom that had definitely seen better days. The curtain/blindless bathroom window had had a hole in it that was very shoddily repaired . There wasn’t even an information folder telling you how to work the heating (which would have been useful as some radiators were boiling hot and others not working) the Wi-Fi code wasn’t noted anywhere and essential numbers for local doctors vets etc. not listed. There certainly wasn’t a guest review book - I wonder why? I don’t expect a perfect standard but do expect a decent one especially when I am paying to stay Do cottages.com inspect these properties.? Overall a very disappointing stay

The cottage was right in the middle of the country with only a field of sheep for neighbours which suited us fine and was a good base for exploring the area.Generally, the cottage was comfortable but the following were disappointing:No freezer, not even a small one at the top of the fridge, so no ice for our G&T! There were two large freezers in the garage but they didn’t seem to work. The TV was quite small compared to what is usually available these days. That wouldn’t have been a problem but most of the channels were unwatchable due to pixelations. The wifi was very slow at times which was quite frustrating. It looked as if the cottage had just been redecorated which possibly accounted for the lack of curtains on some of the windows. Hopefully, all will be curtained for the next guests. Finally, there was a lack of information in the guest book, especially about using the heating system. It was on most of the time, including during the night. As the weather was lovely, the heating wasn’t really needed.I’m aware this all sounds very negative but we did enjoy our stay and there are lots of lovely wee towns and countryside around to explore, which we did and enjoyed very much.
