Brae of Airlie Farm offers a charming, spacious stay with stunning views and a peaceful rural setting. Guests appreciate the extensive gardens, interesting book collection, and the presence of a games room. The property's character and warmth are noted, alongside its potential for being a truly exceptional retreat with some refurbishment.
The property is generally described as clean, with guests mentioning 'lovely fluffy white towels and clean bedding'. However, some guests noted areas that could be improved, such as a 'grubby' appearance and a 'foul smell' from behind the fridge, suggesting room for better attention to detail.
The location is highly praised for its stunning views, quietness, and proximity to local attractions. Guests enjoyed the rural setting and the wildlife sightings, making it an ideal spot for a peaceful retreat.
Comfort receives mixed reviews. While some guests found the property 'very clean and comfortable', others mentioned 'uncomfortable' beds and seating. The warmth of the property was appreciated, but the need for additional or updated furniture was a recurring theme.
Facilities like the games room, book collection, and cooking equipment are well-received, but there are several mentions of maintenance issues, such as missing game pieces, non-functional appliances, and a need for refurbishment. The presence of two fridges and a freezer was noted positively.
While guests have not specifically mentioned gifts, they have appreciated the helpfulness of the caretaker and the provision of amenities like books and games. However, due to the lack of explicit references to gifts, a score cannot be provided.

But the fabric and furnishings of the house are very tired. Appliances all in good working order so that was a bonus. A welcome pack would have been nice so that at least the basics for a cup of tea and a biscuit were there after a long journey. I believe the house has been sold and with the right investment it will be stunning.

A rather disingenuous email from the owner asked for feedback on the basis that they liked having people to stay, rather they were pleased to receive another £1,000. The house had been sold recently and it was clear that very little money had been spent on it for years. Carpets were threadbare, Lino rising off the floor, curtains too small for the windows, kitchen units were ill fitted, painting needed to be done. The house smelt of damp. It was cold. I would have been ashamed to have let it out. We donât want to stay in something which is much less comfortable than home. Had we not driven for 5 hours to get there we would have gone straight home. The photos made it appear quirky but it was actually completely run down.
