At the heart of Glenprosen, one of the renowned ‘Glens of Angus’, lies the Balnaboth Estate on the edge of the Cairngorms National Park; 6,000 peaceful and secluded acres surrounding 16th-century Balnaboth House. In its midst, these six characterful holiday cottages each offer a unique and magical holiday retreat; indeed the creator of Peter Pan himself (Sir James Barrie) was born in nearby Kirriemuir and holidayed here.
These cottages were once occupied by shepherds, gardeners or other staff of the Ogilvy family when this was a traditional Victorian sporting estate. Red squirrels play in the trees, otters frequent the burns, and deer graze all around. Because of the varied scenery, that varies from beech woods to forest, pasture to heather moor, mountain streams to river pools, the area enjoys a spectacular range of wildlife, including species largely extinct elsewhere in Britain, such as black game and ptarmigan.
Magnificent walking, bird-watching, mountain biking and (in season) cross-country skiing abound on the estate and, further afield, downhill skiing at Glen Shee (25 miles). Fishing is available on a 5-mile stretch of the River Prosen, and there are twenty golf courses within an hours’ drive.
Enjoy the seclusion of this beautiful glen - peaceful, relaxing, scenic - yet just a few minutes’ drive from bustling market towns and busy fishing harbours which hug the Angus coastline, as well as from the city of Dundee which offers many attractions for all the family. House needs a lock on bathroom door..door would shut. Funiture in all of the rooms needs updated.. the couch was not confortable. Place needs wifi..

The location is beautiful, idyllic, secluded and directly next to a stream and forest, a stunning nature getaway location.Unfortunately the accommodation itself is very tired, worn and smells of wet dog upon arrival. The chemical air fresheners do a poor job of trying to mask the smell as it's in the carpets upstairs. Everything is old and worn including the cooker, bedding, mattress, sofa, especially the armchair and the carpets. The heating system is poor, the bathroom very cramped. The adjoining half of the building next door is full of rubbish and clutter, which could be welcomed additional space to the accommodation if it were renovated. There is little to no storage space, enough for one person for up to a one week stay. A couple would find it a bit too cramped.It really could do with a full renovation and freshen up (to include the adjoining space) to make it a more appealing destination. It could be a perfect nature retreat if it were redesigned and modernised. It's pretty rough as it is!

This location was several miles from any shops - if you like wildlife and peace and quiet then it is ideal.Cottage can do with updating especially the cooker and a look at overall equipment would improve the whole experience.We enjoyed it and have come home feeling we have had a relaxing break.
