Guests say

Tigh An Uillt is a well-received cottage offering stunning views across Loch Fyne and a comfortable base for exploring Argyll. Guests appreciate the thoughtfulness of the amenities provided, the cleanliness, and the cosy atmosphere, despite some noting the road traffic and maintenance aspects that could be improved.

The property is consistently described as clean, with one review specifically noting it as 'spotlessly clean'. This suggests a high standard of cleanliness throughout.

The location is praised for its stunning views and suitability as a base to explore the area. However, one review mentions a busy road, slightly impacting the tranquillity.

Comfort is highlighted with mentions of a very comfortable bed and a cosy atmosphere with a wood stove. The property seems to provide a comfortable stay overall.

Facilities are generally good, with a fully equipped kitchen and thoughtful touches. However, some maintenance issues like low shower pressure and trip hazards are noted.

Guests are delighted by the thoughtful provisions such as bird food and items for the wood stove. While such gifts enhance the experience, their presence in the future is not guaranteed.

Nestled in a sea front position beside the shore of a west coast sea loch, in the peaceful village of Strachur, this stylish holiday cottage is light and airy with picture windows facing south and west, which fill the rooms with sunlight and give uninterrupted panoramic views over Loch Fyne and the mountains beyond. It is in an area of great natural beauty, lying between the edge of the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park, the Argyll Forest Park, and the spectacular seascapes of the west coast of Argyll, yet is very accessible (approximately a 90-minute drive from Glasgow) and makes a perfect base for touring and walking.

Strachur village itself is well provided with amenities and has an excellent hotel which welcomes non residents for drinks and meals. The village also has a well-stocked general store with attached post office and tea room which serves informal meals, coffee and cake during the day. There is a filling station with shop which sells everything from food to logs for the fire. Both are within walking distance of the cottage.

There is a slipway close to the cottage where a small boat or kayak can be launched into Loch Fyne’s scenic waters in good weather and there are also also tennis courts in the village. A bit further afield there are interesting and historic towns and villages. Inveraray is the closest town. Oban, known as the ’Gateway to the Isles’, with its colourful harbour, and the dramatic mountains of Glencoe, near Fort William are scenic day excursions. In a different direction, the Kyles of Bute are nearby and in yet another direction, you pass through the mountainous scenery of the National Park to Loch Lomond with its cruise boats. Wildlife is abundant, there are some glorious gardens to visit and there are plenty of outdoor pursuits including walking and cycling.

The name of the area around Strachur is Cowal Peninsula, often called, ‘Argyll’s Secret Coast’. It is surrounded by the beautiful coastal scenery of Loch Fyne, the Kyles of Bute and the Clyde Estuary. There is a short ferry crossing from Colintraive to the Island of Bute, with its sandy beaches, historic Rothesay Castle, and the spectacular Mount Stuart House.

Away from the coast there are waterfalls, historic castles and the famous Benmore Gardens as well as many interesting and scenic walks and bike trails. Cowal also has a good selection of restaurants serving everything from an informal lunch to an exceptional dinner.

Internally the cottage has comfortable beds for a good night’s sleep and it has a well equipped kitchen with a separate dining area. A wood burner and upgraded settees in the lounge provide a cosy and relaxing retreat when you come back after a day of exploring the many scenic attractions in the area. Shop/bistro ¼ mile, hotel pub½ mile.

There is open water in the property grounds.

We booked this very last minute so were delighted with how ready this house was for us. It is in a great location to explore Argyll but if you want to just stay in, the views across Loch Fyne are stunning.Local amenities are not great but that's what you expect when you want to be away from the hustle and bustle of busy life. There is a local shop for necessities and your nearest town in Inverary is a 20 minute drive away. There has been a lot of thought gone into this house. The bed is very comfortable and the heating was set perfectly to ensure that we were warm but not melting. All things that we needed were there and so much more!In particular:-Coal, kindling, firelighters, matches and logs to get us started-Super ash tray and great instructions for use-Hand soap-2 towels each (not always a given, even for 7 nights!)-Plenty of hangers-Beautiful artwork-Trays for straighteners/ toothbrushes (I always worry about melting surfaces with my straighteners)-Bird food; we saw so many finches!-Laundry and dishwasher tablets-Kitchen roll-Bin bags-Tea Towel-Shelves at the mirrors with excellent lighting and a stool at the lights - genius for space saving!
