The Isle of Seil is a remote island connected to the mainland of Scotland via the Clachan Bridge, a historic spot where you can enjoy a walk through the scenery. The property rests in the village of Balvicar, near the Atlantic ocean and a golf club where you can try out a game or two. Stock up on essentials at the Balvicar Stores or enjoy a meal out and a drink at the Oyster Bar. Balvicar, and the surrounding areas of the Isle of Seil, are immersed in wilderness and ideal for cycling, walking and birdwatching, with an abundance of wildlife and breath-taking scenery at your fingertips. Explore the islands and coastlines with boat tours from Sealife Adventures and Seafari, or take a ferry to the neighbouring island of Easdale, home to the World Stone Skimming Championships, where there us a pub, The Puffer Bar and Restaurant, and the intriguing Easdale Island Folk Museum. Enjoy a break from the bustle of everyday life with a stay at the tranquil Balvicar Beag.

The village of Balvicar is found on Seil, the most northerly of the Slate Islands, attached to the Scottish mainland by the Clachan Bridge, built in 1793 and now famously known as the 'Bridge over the Atlantic' as it spans the narrow strip of ocean. This is a very peaceful and tranquil area, with an abundance of wildlife and spectacular scenery which is wonderful for walking, birdwatching, cycling, boating and fishing. Balvicar's village shop and post office boast a wide range of groceries, newspapers, fishing tackle for sale and golf clubs for use at the adjacent Golf Club. The two other inhabited slate islands, Easdale and Luing, are reached by a small passenger ferry and a car ferry respectively. Not to be missed are the high adrenaline boat trips by Sea-fari and the more sedate trips by Sealife Adventures, which offer a wide range of marine eco-tours that include visits to the Gulf of Corryvreckan, home of the world's third largest whirlpool, whale and dolphin watching as well as the chance to spot basking sharks and a wealth of seabirds.

The cabin is a perfect retreat for couples who want to relax and be close to nature. There is no signal in the area if you are with O2 but there is WiFi in the cabin although the strength varies, so bear in mind if you wish to do some remote/online work. We used this as a base to explore the nearby towns (Oban is just 20 mins away). Everything you need is in the cabin, we were able to cook when we couldn’t be bothered to eat out. The owner Flo is nice and accommodating, she even left us some homebaked loaf bread, butter and milk. Overall a great holiday for my husband and I and we hope to be back some time in the summer. Highly recommended.

Much like a garden room very cleverly designed with everything you'd need, with amazing views to the mainland. Great base for walking and exploring the slate islands. Lovely welcome from host.

I was greeted by Flo, the owner, who took me down and explained where everything was and left me to it. She'd left milk, butter and a freshly baked loaf of bread along with tea and coffee. The cabin was clean, comfy and very cosy when the weather turned. The shoreline is a two minute walk, good for exploring or just sitting and watching the geese. The view from the decking is gorgeous, enjoyed either with a morning coffee or evening glass of wine. You're 20 minutes drive back to Oban with all it hustle and bustle. Ganavan sands is a lovely beach with walks up to viewing points. From Oban, Fort William is just over an hour away, either via the coastal road or the mighty Glen Coe. A trip to Easdale is worth it. Tons to do if you wish or simple enjoy the peace of this little slice of heaven. As a solo traveller, I felt very safe and slept well. There's even wood to have a little fire and enjoy the stars. A warm welcome, a cosy retreat and peace and quiet, what more could you ask.
