Guests say

Rum, Oban offers a charming lodge experience in a beautiful countryside setting close to Oban, with a rustic on-site pub and friendly staff. Guests frequently praise the cleanliness and welcoming atmosphere, as well as the opportunity to spot local wildlife. While some found the location tricky to find and noted maintenance issues with certain facilities, the overall impression is positive, especially for those seeking a peaceful retreat with good food and a warm welcome.

Most guests found the lodge and site to be spotlessly clean and tidy, with only one review mentioning maintenance-related cleanliness concerns.

The location is widely appreciated for its beauty and proximity to Oban, though a few guests found it difficult to find, especially at night due to poor signage.

Many guests described the lodge as comfortable and spacious, but some mentioned uncomfortable sofas and issues with the shower temperature, which affected their comfort.

The on-site pub and EV charger are highlights, but several guests reported issues with the fridge, shower, extractor, and kitchen equipment, as well as a lack of some basic items.

Guests appreciated the warm welcome, friendly staff, and prompt responses to issues. Some enjoyed wildlife visits, but as gifts or special touches are not guaranteed, this cannot be assured for all guests.

About this property

Rum (Lodge No7), accredited with a Silver Green Tourism Award for sustainable practices and values, offers cosy, dog friendly accommodation for four, in the scenic Lerags Glen on the West Coast.

The rural location ensures peace and privacy but is still less than 3 miles from the vibrant harbour town of Oban, with views across open farmland and walks from the door. Within the same site there is a small children’s play area and The Barn, a rustic pub with plenty of character (seasonal hours, please check). A good place to catch up over a drink and tasty local fare following the days adventures. Due to its rural location, you can enjoy some amazing star gazing on a clear night.

Oban, known as the Seafood Capital of Scotland, has a wide range of seafood & fish restaurants and an excellent fish shop if you wish to cook your own. A visit to the Green Seafood Shack on the quayside is a must for those who love their shellfish. The town is otherwise known as the Gateway to the Isles with the Calmac ferry terminal on South Pier giving access by boat to Mull, Colonsay, Tiree, Lismore and Barra. And there’s a handy water taxi across to Oban’s nearest island – Kerrera – from the town’s North Pier.

The town has two impressive cathedrals and an array of independent shops, including the must visit Oban Chocolate Shop and Oban Distillery. There are several supermarkets, cafes, pubs and restaurants, a cinema, golf course, swimming pool and a selection of other land and water-based sports facilities. Not forgetting safe sandy beaches for those looking for a traditional ‘seaside holiday’, numerous historical sites within easy reach including Dunstaffnage and Dunollie Castles and Inveraray Jail and for the horticulturist’s, visits to Inveraray Castle & Gardens and Arduaine Gardens are a must. There really is plenty for all ages to explore.

Lovely stay with the family at Rum. It's a clean and spacious lodge. Lovely rustic pub on site for good food and drinks. Woke up to deer outside our bedroom window!

Very nice, small complex of chalets with al pub on site with good food. The chalet was very clean and practical and although we didn't meet the owners they were available by whatsap and responded immediately to quieries. For example, the shower stopped working and it was replaced very quickly. The only minor improvement I would suggest would be to provide a few more cleaning materials and some bin bags.
