We really enjoyed our stay at the cottage. The location is lovely, with a great view over the river, and the decking and conservatory were perfect for relaxing and enjoying the surroundings. The cottage was warm, comfortable and welcoming, and having a dedicated parking space over the road to the cottage, in front of the garage, was very useful.There are some things that we think may be helpful for future guests to know. The cottage is on a fairly busy road and there is regular traffic, including timber/log lorries. We found the traffic noise noticeable throughout the day and it did start quite early in the morning, so this is perhaps worth bearing in mind if you are looking for a particularly quiet retreat. That said, we still enjoyed having days where we simply stayed at the cottage and relaxed.The bathroom is quite compact. The size itself is obviously something that can't really be changed, but we found the spa bath rather uncomfortable due to its shape and size, particularly as we are both around 5'9"–5'10" and of medium build. The shower cubicle is also small and has a step up into it, which may be useful information for some guests.There is a dishwasher with two tablets provided, as well as two washing machine pods. We found that leaving washed clothes in the conservatory during the day was also very effective for drying them.Entertainment is fairly limited if, like us, you don't subscribe to Netflix or Sky, and there isn't a DVD player, so bringing DVDs isn't really an option. This wasn't a major issue for us, but it's worth knowing if you enjoy watching films or television during your downtime.There wasn't a traditional welcome pack, although when we experienced a power cut, both Mark, the owner, and Hazel, the cleaner, were incredibly helpful. Hazel was particularly kind and brought us some homemade cheese scones, which were absolutely delicious. She even made us some to take with us for our journey home, which was such a lovely and thoughtful gesture.The pub bar is run by a lovely guy who works full-time, so opening hours are limited to late afternoon/evenings. It doesn't serve food, but it is a nice option for a drink.The surrounding area is lovely, with some great walks straight from the doorstep down to the river, and lots of places to explore by car, including Hawick, Langholm, Longtown, Gretna Green, Lockerbie and Newcastleton. We particularly enjoyed Mollie's Café in Newcastleton, which is dog-friendly and served great food with friendly, welcoming and helpful staff.Overall, we had a lovely stay and enjoyed the cottage and its surroundings. We would recommend it to anyone looking for a comfortable base with beautiful river views and plenty of opportunities for walking and exploring the local area. The few points we've mentioned are simply things we think are useful for future guests to be aware of rather than criticisms of the cottage.

Stayed 5 nights first week of July. Lovely cottage with fantastic view of the river from the decking. Great walks to do locally and various places to visit within 45 mins drive. Village shop/Post Office 2 mins walk away which is well stocked. Cottage was very clean, comfortable and well equipped. Everyone we met all said hello etc, and are really friendly. Overall a very nice property. Would highly recommend to anyone who fancies a nice quiet break away.
